Rafferty and Rathbone may not be household names right now... but they the reason why Stecher is playing in Detroit.

No, they’re not. OEL is.

Well, that's a positive deal for the Canucks. Now all they have to do is buy out Sutter and sign Toffoli to 4.25 and Stecher to 1.7 and they'll be in pretty good sha-
... Oh. Oh I see. Oh dear.

Except the Canucks were trying to get Barrie and asked Stecher to wait until Barrie made his decision.. Stecher said he wasn't going to risk losing other offers and took Detroit's.
So he very obviously tried to re-sign Stecher, for all your spin. As usual, Benning does Benning things and screws things up.

Benning does Benning things and in the end somehow falls backwards into gold
Misses out on barrie, doesn't sign stetcher, has the room for schmidt
Drafts OJ over Tkachuk, somehow turns that into getting petterson and hughes, which they wouldn't have if tkachuk was on the team and contributing and finishing higher in the standings
Benning is homer and his haters are Frank Grimes

But are they better with Schmidt than say, Stecher and Toffoli? And look at all the dead weight he's got in the bottom of the lineup. He might have lucked into Petterson and Hughes, but they have no room and way too many guys making way too much money.
But on the bright side for Benning, this may actually turn into a won trade. Which would pretty much be his second.

I'd call it a wash. Schmidt is a much better player than Stecher and as amazing as Toffoli was in the few games he played for us, the player is notoriously streaky. If I could have Toffoli and Schmidt then yes.

What a stretch. Can't wait until mid-January when the Canucks are out of playoff contention, so all the Canuck fans on here will disappear back into their holes in Scurvy.

Considering team needs, I'm not sure about that.

Pretty hard to argue this...I mean a week ago a certain someone was going on about Toffoli's PPG stats when it looked like the Canucks had him in the bag

There's also Jake Virtanen who had 18-18-36pts and has filed for arbitration, they may have to walk from him when he gets $2m+

You can only walk away if the amount is over 4.5 million (4.538 or something like that, to be more specific). Anything less, you're stuck with that. Maybe that's why Benning didn't buy out Sutter or Baertschi yet. Or ownership won't let him.

Ummm...in what world is a streaky 2nd line winger, a #5 dman plus a 3rd rnd pick (with a small % chance of becoming an regular regular) more valuable than a #2 Dman with a reasonable contract with 5 years left?
Look, Toffolli is a good winger, but he and Stetcher could be fairly easily replaced . Top pairing dmen don't exactly grow on trees.
