Two 2nds for Toews is magnitudes better than what we paid for Hamonic. Slightly jealous.

Yes, but they are paying it for 1 year of control for Towes. We got 3 years of control for Hamonic. It does seem like the better deal though.

I don't have a strong opinion, but he wasn't a top pairing on the Islanders last season (considering ice-time) and only has 116 NHL games under his belt. I guess the potential is there and he is entering his prime, so I will take your word for it.

What I was thinking. For a younger player, and Avs are a legit contender and in a better position to be giving up draft picks in the first place.
Wonder if Treliving knew Toews was an option, and considered this before signing Tanev? Toews shoots left so there is that.

Sakic is a great GM but let’s not forget how lucky the Avs got with MacKinnon being a late bloomer. They not only got him on the league’s best contract but were able to tank again for Rantanen and Makar.

A lot of Sakics recent work is really good and likely should result in more long term success. But I will wait until his team can get past round 2 to crown his ass the Champion.

I don't think replacing Zadorov with Toews is any major coup.
And signing your own RFAs is pretty standard fare.
So they acquired one year of Saad. Great.
I mean, all good. But let's gear down with the Sakic love just a touch maybe.

Sakic and Yzerman are two notable examples of former NHL players (and great captain/leaders) being good GMs.
Then we have Kevin Lowe in Edmonton: "And lastly I’ll say, there’s one other guy I believe in hockey today, that is still working in the game, that has won more Stanley Cups than me, so I think I know a little bit about winning if that’s ever a concern."

I’ll wait for the contract to declare this good or bad.
Toews will be a bottom pair D for the Avs. Maybe #4 at times.
2 2nds seems like a lot of the contract isn’t pretty good.

Grubauer had a great first round against the haplessly anemic Arizona Coyotes, but before getting injured in Game 1 v. Dallas was having himself a horrendous game.
Who knows how much better they would have fared with him healthy, but on the face of it Grubauer's 0.912 career plaoff SP doesn't inspire a tonne of confidence.

It’s hit and miss for star ex players being GMs or PHOs.
Blake, Milbury, Linden, Clarke were no good. Wilson, Francis - pretty good. Shanahan hasn’t done much.

That's fair. In my defense, though, I never said every star player would make a good GM.
As an observation, in all of those examples given above, all the teams cut ties with the 'no good' GMs/PoHOs. Whereas the Oilers continue to hang on to their past players in the face of their curennt dismal performance.
It's another case of E=NG forever. It's ingrained into that franchise's identity and corporate culture.

Will Colorado be the 3rd team closest to the Rockies that will trade futures to the Islanders for a defenseman and get poor value? Stay tuned...I actually like this deal better than an FA signing.

Well they could have Nate the Great Schmidt for only one third. I am sure Vegas would have traded to another division contender just like Vancouver.. oh wait.
