I don't like that contract. Still, that's probably the best fit out of the UFA bin that Calgary could get at this point. I don't hate the player, but I am uncomfortable with that deal. Brodie was only .5 more - I really would love to hear that rationale.

This is a replacement and I would say a upgrade on Hamonic. I do believe we will still bring in that PP quarter back via trade, maybe after we sign Hall.

Tanev is about 6 months older than Brodie but definitely has a longer injury history list.

Yikes...that’s 2 years too long and $1.5M too much for what he brings now.

He probably got the deal that was on the table for Brodie.

A bit of an overpayment IMO, but not the worst deal.

I think it definitely takes us out of the Petro sweepstakes, not that it was likely he would go to the Flames anyway. And without some trades, I can't see us in on Hall either now.

Feels a bit like the proverbial shuffling of deck chairs on the Titanic.

A lot of the Canuck fans seem to like Tanev. I wouldn't say it's an overpayment, but I doubt this contract ages well.

Bye Hall.
Even if we signed hall we would have to sign Brodie or his replacement.

They have to do some cap gymnastics but I wouldnt eliminate us from contention just yet.

Some of you Flames fans should really spend some time watching other teams and players.

Brodie and Tanev are very similar. They are both great skaters and put up limited offense but both are very good at defending.

This is a lateral move but one that had to be made. Brodie has to be replaced and you won’t find a more similar player.

It’s funny how some are lamenting the loss of Brodie in one thread and panning this signing in another one.

Tanev and Brodie are virtually interchangeable.

They offered Tanev exactly what they offered Brodie, Tanev took it.

As for Tanev’s injury history, there’s something about Vancuver’s Medical staff, I’m hoping the Flames staff and also Van Asten can help Tanev stay healthy.

Combing back over the past 7 seasons, he has averaged 60.2 games played per season.

That’s...not great. A career high of 70 GP, and hit 69 twice.

This is hideous. Should have just paid Brodie or banked the cap space. Man. Flames pro talent evaluation in free agency to a T 😣

He got Quinn Hughes Calder runner up, so he's pretty good I guess.

Not overjoyed about the deal. The Flames will be lucky to get 60 games out of him per season. He is a RD which is good.
