Gallagher’s next contract is going to be gross. Not interested in that swap

No doubt.

They just gave Anderson 7 x $5.5M

Gallagher is probably asking for 7 x $7M with that type of overpayment for a worse player.

Gallagher seems like such a natural fit for the Flames. Perfect way to shake up their forward group.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Gallagher
Dube - Bennett - Mangiapane
Lucic - Gawdin - Robinson
Rinaldo

Really gives you lots of options on the top 3 lines. I would prefer to keep Hanifin in that deal though. Not sure what else we could offer

WTF.......lots of teams make the Cup final with a Captain as a drifter?????
Big hits, game winning goals.
8 goals and 19 points.
Wish the Flames had a playoff drifter like this.

I brought up Juulsen the other day as a young RHD that the Flames might be interested in if a deal with Montreal were to happen. Injury history but fits a need more than Mete would.

Does Hanifin meet any in Montreal?

Otherwise does Calgary consider moving him for picks to free up the salary and work out another hockey trade with Montreal?

Would be interesting
Crazy, but Hanifin for Gallagher puts Mtl well over the cap (they are are already 300K over). Hanifin makes about $1M more than Gallagher.

But: Hanifin for Gallagher and Kulak? Maybe Calgary has to add something.

But then Calgary runs with:

Gio-Andersson
Valimaki-Tanev
Kulak-Kylington/Petrovic

It's a D that depends a lot on Valimaki panning out and Kulak working well with the other two.

Then you get
Gaudreau-Monahan-Gallagher/Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Lindholm/Gallagher
Dube-Bennett-Mangiapane
Gawdin-Ryan-Rinaldo/Robinson

Any thought to Calgary eating some salary with Hanifin in exchange for Montreal adding a pick?

I don't expect Kulak back in Calgary, well, at least not happy to be back in Calgary.

I have always been a huge Gallagher fan and would have loved to acquire him. But he is now 28 and he is a UFA after this season. He is going to want to get paid, and he is going to want a long term deal. And his performance is going to start to decline.

Hanifin is a 23 year old defenseman. He is going to get better over the next 5 years, not fade into uselessness like Gallagher will.

So if you're making that trade, you are absolutely doing it as a win now move.

Personally, I think it's a bad move. I think he is going to become an expensive anchor in 2 or 3 years, as much as I'd love to have him right now.

You could also look at a deal with Mangiapane+ for Gallagher. Mangiapane needs a deal done but it's likely in a range that Montreal can live with.

Eat some of Hanifin's salary? Gallagher will be looking for north of $5M.

4 years of eating salary? No chance not on a deal as nice as Hanifin’s

Yeah not a great idea. Just looking at making the money equal on both sides.

I could see something like what Gio mentioned re: Mangiapane if those negotiations don't go any better than what Gallagher is going through right now

Gallagher has a year left on his current contract, so there isn't really a rush to get a deal done.

Buyers beware on Gallagher.

He is going to slow down super fast. Can't play his type of game and his style at his size.

I fully expect at around 31 or 32 a steep decline.

If ever we do acquire him, term is key.

This makes sense. Except I suppose Flames and Kulak likes want little to do with each other.

Those are 3 strong forward lines. And a 4th line that needs some help.

Wouldve been a mistake as that season was an aberration. Imo Zucker would've barely moved the needle going forward or for the playoffs imo. Kadri on the other hand wouldve been perfect for this squad. He was the one that got away, especially considering how important C is compared to W

Mangiapane is one of the few guys on the roster that could outperform his contract. I'm not too keen on trading him.
