I think Nuge gets moved as well. Last member of the “big 5” to be set free.
Schultz, Yakupov, Hall, Eberle all seem to be doing fine since moving on. It took some longer than others but all realized their potential since moving on.
Hall superstar winger
Eberle top line forward
Schultz top 4 D
Yakupov top 6 forward
Nuge gets out now he will be a solid #2 or maybe even a 1b centre.

This post made me realize...could you imagine any other team that was given the assets the oilers got?
Dubnyk
Xxxx-xxxx
Petry-Schultz
Hall-xxxxx-xxxxx
Barzal-xxxx-Eberle
Yakupov-xxxx-xxxx
If they had been able to develop anyone in the second round and beyond in the last decade and not built a culture of suck that had free agents avoiding the city, the pieces were there.
E.G.: Slot in Dougie, Brodie, (or any other 2nd/3rd/4th round defensemen/defensemen that could have been acquired instead of Reinhart) and their remaining first rounders and the depth would be there. It really is unbelievable how futile they have been considering the assets the league gave them...

If Wayne Simmonds comes onto the market what about Bennett and Kylington as at least a conversation starter?

I'm starting to feel like Sam Bennett might just be one of those guys. The truth is he's not the only one in recent memory, Granlund and Baertschi have both looked much better in their new digs.
Even if it's just as a rental, I might be willing to move Bennett as part of a deal for Evander Kane at this point.

Simmonds is turning 30 soon... no way I give up Bennett AND Kylington for him.

Bennett has exactly 0 trade value right now on CP. And Kylington isn't on the top of the value list either.
So I figure the feedback is this'll be a low ball offer for Simmons.

I'm not sold on what Kylington will be yet. (could be great or could be a 'wish you get more out of him' guy) and Simmonds is going to cost two pieces+ to get him out since he has this year and another on his contract.
Simmonds just seems like a guy who could fit a role nicely on this team. I can't think it would be cheap to get him.

I get it but I think that would be in the area of asking price.
I'm looking at this team and this season as a real opportunity to get to a Western Conference Final at worst. The Pacific isn't as strong as it has been in years. You've got a pretty solid D core. In theory that should give you 3 pretty good lines. Also you have a goaltender who the team believes they can win with.
I see that as a way to 'go for it' without crippling your future to do so.

With the emergence of Ferland and Tkachuk, where does Simmonds fit?

Simmonds is getting older, and it's likely his play would decline pretty soon after the trade.
But Bennett and Kylington really aren't worth much.
I'm guessing that in a situation like this, both teams would overvalue their own players and a deal wouldn't get done.

With Janko and Jagr I'd think to start. Not like you can't put him up in a top 6 role if the need arises. I'm also going on the premise that could can put Jagr on either wing and I think he'll be just fine,

Very helpful. And what would your suggestion be going on the premise that you are going to try and win in the next two years given the current state of the franchises assets, especially considering you only have one draft pick of any real value in the next two years?

Do you realize Kylington is still very young? This is the guy who is playing professional hockey when he is supposed to be playing in the CHL. I am not saying he is a saviour but he is still very young. Most defensemen doesn't mature until after 22-25 years old. So I would not say he is not wrth much. I hate to say it but I am not giving up on Bennett just yet. He's got lots of potential if he can get his confidence back. Right now he is pushing himself very hard unfortunately because of it he is overthinking the game.

If the Flames were to start shopping Bennett and Kylington in the hopes of making a deep run this year, what exactly do people think the return would be?
I would not trade those guys for a handful of reasons, but I am curious what posters think the return would be? Kylington is a nice prospect but I suspect his trade value is that of a 2nd round pick. Bennett...

Of course we all hope Bennett turns into that elite top 6 guy and Kylington turns into a good top 4. But what else are you going to deal away if you assume you're taking a shot with this core group at this time. I don't think we're getting anything that helps for Brouwer and a bag of magic beans.

I have a feeling Bennett is going to be Hull 2.0 for the Flames.

Nope. Ferland pretty much allows us to not have to shop for someone like Simmonds.

Anything wrong with having two guys like that? (at the right price of course) Personally I'd like to add another guy in that Simmonds/Ferland mold that can actually play and bring a physical element when it's needed.
