Algeria put up a good fight and have to be proud of that effort.

Germany winning is better for the tournament though.

Germany, France, Brazil, and Columbia makes for a pretty good draw on that side of the bracket.

Huge respect for both teams, especially Desert Foxes. 120 minutes of straight up battle. Great pace. Great game.

Love this tournament

It's Özil. The Ö is commonly changed to Oe for the English language.

Oezil has been awful, Schurrle should start in his place for the rest of the tournament. Klose needs to see the field too.

Germany will need to step it up to beat France

We also see stuff like Müller becoming Mueller, and Großkreutz becoming Grosskreutz.

Agreed. Plays seem to constantly die on his foot.

Klose needs one more bloody goal. Surprised they didn't put him in. Saving him for a close game with the French?

I don't think Klose had much place in this game, this was a high-pace running game, that's not what he's about anymore.

Özil I think is mostly misused. The whole midfield is a bit of a mess right now, considering the players.

Schürrle certainly made a case for himself.

French really only looked like a potential champion in the last 30 minutes. The first 60 minutes Nigeria was doing fine against them, and I think Algeria was a much better team today than Nigeria.

While Germany had it's problems, they also had their strengths. They still had energy to run in the latter half of the extra time, when many teams have been wiped out after 80 minutes. I think they have more overall skill. They also have a very good (if a bit unconventional) goalie in Neuer.

But Germany needs to get that midfield sorted out, I don't know what the hell Löw was thinking.

Klose is the only true German who knows how to create space in the box. I think that would help create space for the more creative players, Mueller and Schurrle in particular.

And for heavens sake, play Lahm at RB!!!!!

Germany never started trying to loft crosses into the box until late in the game. They always want to make the fancy play. To their credit they stuck with it today and finally broke through.

Neuer should be man of the match. Wish the Germans would go back to a 4-2-3-1 with Klose but Loew is setting himself to look like a genius or an idiot - time will tell which one.

Not impressive overall by Germany although in previous world cups they looked amazing at this point in the tournament and didn't win. So who knows.

I think they're playing Ozil too high up, so he's looking out of place. He's not a striker and should be moved into more of a creative role, with Schurrle,Klose or Muller ahead of him.

Neuer's pitch map. 21/59 touches were outside the box.

At this point I'd almost consider paying Neuer at CB and putting Weidenfeller in at GK. Pretty sure Neuer is faster than any of the other defenders.
