Definitely needs to bulk up, he's the tallest out of all three and weighs the least

Have also seen #Flames first 2018 #NHLdraft selection Martin Pospisil (RW) described as an "absolute pest", 200 ft. player.

I also tweeted:
"Imagine how many points Pospisil might have had should he not have spent the equivalent of about 15 games in the sin bin."

My doctor prescribed Pospisil for me, but I'm ashamed to say what for.

From Tod Button:

came on the radar last year at the u18s
will play in Sioux City (USHL) another year
big rangy center
played for our old Minneosta scout, Luke Strand, so felt like we had a little bit of an edge on knowing the insides of the kid
took a little time for Luke to get the kid to stop proving that he was tough kid that could handle North America
2nd half of the year he took offensively - tracking him all year and were watching a couple of other good players on that team last year
got a lot of range can play LW/C
more of a playmaker than a scorer but he has a real desire to impact the game phyiscally

Per @RyanNPike

Martin Pospisil:
-16 points in first 31 games (before Feb 1)
-21 points in last 18 games (Feb 1 to end of season)

https://twitter.com/RyanNPike/status...07448805285888

***
I'd add, he actually had streak in Jan. '18 where he had 9 P in 6 GP AND another in Feb. '18 where he had 12 P in 6 GP.
He ended the season (late Mar/early Apr) w/ 7 P in 6 GP.

Completely as an Aside. When do the prospect ranking polls begin?

Being it is our first selection He will probably be given every chance to work his way up the ladder than any other 4th round pick. Kidding of course

This is such an intriguing pick. I still don't understand how his PIMS can be so high?

He has one fight on youtube which he looked pretty impressive in. He must have fought a lot to get those PIMS.

Would have liked to get Austin Wong and Oliver Okuliar too to complete the trifecta of talented PIM magnets

Super pumped about this pick, I'd bet he will be a NHLer

Just so you know, in the USHL fighting automatically gets you 5min + 10min misconduct. So if you fight a lot in that league, your PIMs get somewhat inflated.

That being said, it looks like he only fought 3 times last season.

He gets so many 10 min misconducts and game misconducts including abuse of official, charging, and roughing. Guy is really a loose cannon if you set him off it seems.

I don claim to know anything about anyone drafted outside of the top 15, to be honest, but I am slightly disappointed that we didnít pick Curtis Douglas, who went at #106. I liked his big frame.

If I recollect, it's usually in late July/August, after all the free agent hoopla, rookie camps, etc.

When there's not much else to argue about.

A lanky forward, he is a fun player to watch due to his unpredictability. Anything can happen when the Slovak is on the ice. He plays with emotion and passion and compete. He is an interesting prospect, and he's somewhat flying under the radar. He's definitely not afraid to venture into the gritty areas of the rink and mix it up - he didn't register 253 penalty minutes (and 37 points) in 49 games by accident. Tosses the flippers on a very regular basis, as far as the USHL is concerned, with no fear. An emotional player to say the least. But he is also a guy that can be counted on to play top-line minutes. Has skill to compliment his emotional physicality. He can handle the middle of the ice on the power play and work like a dog on the penalty kill as he displays a high-level of tenacity towards the puck. His complete game does need some fine-tuning, but that will come in future years. At the collegiate level, he could work out some of the kinks. His skillset is intriguing and his ability to shoulder bottom-line responsibilities makes him an intriguing commodity. Plenty to like. Going forward, he could end up being a heart-and-soul player at the pro levels. Tested very well at the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in several categories, and is set to head off to St. Lawrence University next season. A potential sleeper pick.
