Knew Van would get blown out tonight. Sharks are trending in the right direction, we need to keep pace.

Hate to say it.. we all sound like Oiler fans when we vent about other teams starting their back-ups against so-in-so team. If the Sharks had an ATL, this thread would be in it.

It’s because the NBA sucks.

The Canucks did not start their backup. They didn’t even start their AHL replacement goalie. They are playing their Junior-level prospect who played games in the WJHC this year.

It’s not even remotely close to the same thing.

6 goals on 15 shots. Ouch.

Eh. It was also only a 1 point lead as of Jan 8th and the Sharks will have gone 10-3 since then after tonight, and will have only gained 2 points on the Flames and played 1 more game.

not to mention and this does sound like excuses and sour grapes, and maybe it it is, but Calgary's schedule is absolutely asinine. Why not take it one step further NHL, and have them play one road one home game and each road game on the eastern seaboard? They're going to be one tired group at the end of this stretch I think.

The travel is crazy, but I think we have one of the softer schedules in terms of opponent difficulty the rest of the way? Thought I heard that recently.

3rd easiest IIRC.

If they get through Feb in decent shape, things set up nicely.

Stupid Canucks. Flames really have to start playing divisional opponents better. It's a struggle to even beat the Oilers as I imagine the Flames are close to .500 vs the Pacific which isn't very good.

ANA: 0-1-0 (3G left)
ARZ: 2-0-0 (2G left)
EDM: 2-1-0 (1G left)
LAK: 2-0-0 (2G left)
SJS: 1-2-0 (1G left)
VAN: 1-1-2 (1G left)
VGK: 1-1-0 (2G left)
TOTAL: 9-6-2 (9-8 really)

But look on the bright side, by letting San Jose be the Best of the West, the pressure is on them! Remember when they won the Pres. Trophy ten years ago only to be upset by Anaheim in 6?

The score could've been a lot closer to 6-1 Flames the other night if not for Markstrom. He stood on his head. Asking a lot of the rookie to do the same tonight. Basically the Sharks caught a real lucky break.

Garrett says something about the Canucks 'playing well lately'.

After a few seconds Shorthouse mentions '........the Canucks got away with one Saturday.'

Thank you Shorty.

The difference cannot be emphasised enough. Playing Mikey DiPietro in this game is not even the same as the Flames starting Tyler Parsons. He is a junior goalie with no games of professional experience.

The Flames drew a seasoned NHL goalie the last game, more than doubled the number of shots the Sharks have fired tonight against the same team, and lost in an individual skills competition.

7 goals on 24 shots. Quite different from Saturday.

It was a super dumb idea for the Canucks to play their top goaltending prospect in this game.

I wonder if Markstrom is indeed banged up.

Either way, crappy for us. It was a gimmie for the Sharks.

If true that just means they have already played the harder teams though

Yes... obviously.

That's why I said "the rest of the way".
