Hathaway is not a million dollar player.

If Tkachuk is wanting 8 million, you have to make up the difference elsewhere on the roster. The 12th and 13th forwards need to be around $750K per.

I believe 1.05M is the threshold for burying a contract (completely). That would be the max I’d pay Hath. That way he’d know he can still be buried. Still have to fight for a roster spot, yet reward him for his play at the same time.

Hathaway is certainly a $1 million player, especially if he hits that 10-goal plateau this year. The real question is if he's a $1 million player here. I think he can be.

Although Ferland would help the team in terms of toughness, with the various contracts up for renewal e.g Tkachuk, Rittich, etc. I can see a cap problem when it comes to what he may command in salary this summer.

Also, I see it possibly creating friction re his displacement of eligible players on the top 2 lines.

If it was me, I would pass on Ferland.
