Humble brag incoming.

I caddied for a Swede in the ATB classic two years in a row. We were grouped with a total of 8 players over those two tournaments. Half the players I had the opportunity to walk with now have PGA Tour cards.

Taylor Gooch
Sam Ryder
Brady Schnell (got to witness him shoot a 59 at Sirocco)
Corey Connors

If you are a fan of golf, I can't recommend caddying enough. Being inside the ropes is something special.

Damn... Fowler is definitely known for crumbling with the lead, but that was rough. Took a drop after basically hydroplaning a chip into the water... and then the drop rolls back into the water after being called live. Will be impressed and surprised if he mentally recovers from this.

And he did. Good to see him finally get a win after a long dry streak.

That's pretty awesome. He'll the cut by 11 strokes though (Saturday cut because of the 3 course rotation)

Canadian Michael Gligic is on 17 on the Web.com tour with a 2 shot lead. The leaders have 4 holes to play.

This is the Panama Championship

Brad Fritsch hits 4 birdies on the backnine to jump up into the top 20 as well.

Great result. For those who don't know much about him (like me until the last 5 minutes) he won the Dan Halldorson trophy for Canadian Player of the Year on the Canadian tour in 2018. He's 29 years old from Burlington (no word on whether he is a Walk Off the Earth fan). Has Sean Foley as his swing coach.

Quote:
Nearly two decades after first meeting Gligic, Foley still coaches him and echoes Gligic’s confidence.

“It’s a story about an extremely good player who hasn’t had a lot of breaks. To watch him go and get to 25-under at the final stage of Q-school, that’s right where he should be,” says Foley, who’s become a mentor and friend to Gligic as well as a swing coach. “If he’s given that many opportunities with that good of a card, I don’t see how he can’t finish inside the top 25 (on the money list). He’s just too good of a scorer and has such a good skill set.”

In total, Gligic’s journey to the Web.com Tour has included more than 100 mini-tour events and 62 Mackenzie Tour events—88 if you include his 26 Canadian Tour starts from before the Mackenize Tour’s inception, in 2013. He’ll be the first to tell you the path to the Tour is only getting more difficult.

“There are a lot of kids coming up that are working their butts off and pushing everyone else to have to keep up,” says Gligic. “There are so many different tools and ways to do it; coaches and personal trainers and sports psychologists and swing coaches and short-game coaches and Trackman. Guys are working so hard because you pretty much have to.”

Gligic began his season Sunday in the Bahamas and, based on his Q-School performance, is guaranteed eight starts before being subject to the first reshuffle. Play well, and he’ll continue getting in tournaments. His friend Foley will be watching closely.

“I could have a player with a putt to win the Masters, and my heartbeat would be 50,” says Foley. “If Mike Gligic has a chance to win with two holes left on the Web.com Tour, I will probably be throwing up.”

Now onto the serious bit on the Web.com tour.

In 2018 the top 25 got their card for the PGA Tour. It's based off of money earned. 2019 seems to be based off of points but i'm not quite sure how it works.

In 2018 the 25th player earned $167,014
20th Player earned $181,738
10th was $207,909
1st was $534,326

The tournament today wasn't a big one, but not small either. He'll earn around $112,500. Not enough to guarantee a card, but he'll get into all tournaments now and should be qualified for the last 5 big money tournaments on the tour.

Let's hope he keeps it up.

Huge win for Michael.

He's basically playing with house money the rest of the season. Two more top-10s should be enough to lock in his card. Needs to stay healthy and positive.

Pretty impressive final round and win for Phil. Bogey free 65 in the cold and wet over two days at Pebble.

Maybe Phil can finally win a US Open this year?

Mike Weir's has the Thursday morning lead at the Web.com event this week. Maybe he's finally healthy and figuring things out. He is playing the web.com full time this year after piecing together random sponsor exemptions the last few years.

It's at Pebble Beach so you could either subscribe to the theory that he has the advantage having already won there this year or that the odds of winning twice on the same course in the same year might not be very good.

So what are we thinking about the big story in golf right now? You know, Matt Kuchar's nickname going from "KUUUUUUUUCH" to "CHEEEEEEEAP". The fact he remains steadfast that what he did was good is a staggering lack of self-awareness. Surely the upcoming losses from sponsors will hurt him more than chipping off the caddy another $50,000. Damage is done though it seems.

Ongoing drama about an arrangement he had with a local caddie when he won in Mexico. It's quickly killing his good guy image.

According to the article it didn't sound like they agreed to certain percentage of the winnings. He agreed to be paid $3000 plus an unspecified amount of the winnings. It doesn't look like Matt Kuchar did anything wrong. Expecting 10% or even 5% from a big winning is crazy imo. Especially for a substitute caddy.

The caddy should learn from this and make sure he gets a certain percentage of the winnings in the future by having it in writing.

Nobody agrees to a certain percentage of winnings. Players typically give their caddies a 10% win bonus. It's not contractually obligated, but of course when you win you take care of your guys. In this case this was not his guy, it was a local caddy. Yes Kuchar gave him what was agreed to, but the look of it is of course abysmal. Kuchar has earned more than $50 million in his career and this was his first win in four years. Regardless if Kuchar feels he was in the right, he's getting obliterated on this one and will probably lose at least one sponsor which will cost him more than paying out even a 5% bonus, especially since he's double and tripling down right now. And I imagine there will be more and more stories of his cheapness that will come to light (and they will as we know). We can talk about the unfair nature of the social media age, but Kuchar should know better.

But seriously it's gonna be great when he starts getting "CHEEEAP" after he makes putts. Gonna be interesting to see if he keeps his head, or if he goes full heel.

He might not have done anything "wrong" like breach of an agreement.

But when you're paying a caddie significantly less than the accepted norm, that is not too cool. Like getting great service at a nice restaurant and tipping 85 cents on a $200 bill.

Meh. Kuchar does look cheap, but the caddy looks greedy as well. $5000 is a lot of money to earn in a week, especially in Mexico.
