Can't speak for a d-bag like Maas but it's easy to see that Claybrooks has the right temperament as a motivator and leader. But what does he do on the offensive side of the ball? Looks like Jarious Jackson was a first year OC last year; it'll be interesting to see if he stays in that role or if Claybrooks tries to bring in someone new.

The Hufnagel coaching tree is starting to become quite impressive...

Took over a team that were the defending Grey Cup champions. In three seasons, he's never done better than 5-5 within the division, and Edmonton has never hosted a playoff game. With one of the best QB's in the league (if not first, then clearly second).

If I'm Reilly, I'm not sure why I'd want to re-sign in Edmonton...

What a huge off season ahead of Huf.

I remember a few years ago we had some large turnover on the roster, including the best RB in the league in Cornish retiring, and Huf stepping down as HC and giving the reigns to DD. Stamps never missed a beat, in fact they seemed to get even better.

Will be interesting to see what the 'Football Whisperer' can conjure up this time around, especially with BLM likely leaving, and the two leaders of that Championship D probably gone as well (Claybrooks & Singleton).

Obviously the locals here will disagree but it'd be nice to see another team in the west rise up and host a west final and be the top dog. Edmonton can eff off, and SSK sucks. I nominate Winnipeg and the Canadian Mafia.

I don’t think it would happen but I’d love to see what a guy like Mike Reilly could do on the Stampeders.

Looks like Mark Washington is looking for work as Rich Stubler will be joining DeVone Claybrooks in BC.

Cowtown is where Stubler and Claybrooks spent two seasons together as defensive coordinator and defensive line coach respectively. Claybrooks defensive philosophies are largely based on what he’s learned from Stubler.

Im still holding out hope that Singleton is back....he is just a bit undersized for the NFL IMO.

That being said I can see where an NFL team uses him on special teams and as an edge rusher on 3rd downs in a 3-4 scheme perhaps.....which will pay him way more than anything the Stamps can offer.

He would do a hell of a lot better than No Run Mitchell!

Is Alex Singleton marginally better than Adam Bighill? I think transplant is right, he could certainly be a special teams guy and could earn much more money in the NFL, but I think eventually he will find his way back to the CFL much like Bighill did (and hopefully back to the Stamps).

Disagree. Mitchell talked a lot about his running (or lack thereof) philosophy on the CFL Horsemen podcast. Basically he boiled it down to that he felt it was his duty to maintain his health not just for personal health reasons but also so that he would be healthy in all his team's regular season and playoff games over the course of the season. He might leave first downs on the field, but he trades those for durability.

Recall the 2014 West Final where Edmonton got blown away by the Stamps. It wasn't just that the Stamps played well why Calgary won, it was also that Captain 'dive headfirst for the 1st down every time' started that game on a bum foot and then got lit up to the point he was knocked out of the game.

How many games did Edmonton lose because Reilly was playing beatup and below his best or couldn't even start over his tenure there? As stoic and heroic it looks like to watch Reilly get pummeled on scrambles, I think the value of the drives he extends is exceeded by the value of having him healthy over the course of a season. This will only get worse as he ages further into his 30s.

I prefer the simpler explanation that Reilly simply played on an inferior team.

Defensively, no question as the Eskies were a tire fire under Benevides (and no surprise that they're not bringing him back, they can talk about the salary cap crunch, but that's just cover for the fact that Bene is no good).

Offensively, Reilly throws a great deep ball, but it's the intermediate throws where he has some struggles. I think he really missed Zylstra this past season. The guy does leave it all out on the field though and is a warrior.
