Bengals have fired their DC Teryl Austin.

32nd total defense (454.6 YPG)
32nd pass defense (313.3 YPG)
31st rush defense (141.3 YPG)
first team in SB era to give up 500+ yards in 3 straight games
on pace to give up most yards in NFL history (Saints 2012, 440.1 YPG)

quite impressive.

49ers only -3 tonight at home vs. awful Giants. That seems like an easy bet, no?

Nathan Peterman released today from the Bills. Has one of the best Wikipedia pages:

Nathan Interception Peterman is a former American football quarterback for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. He is widely considered as the best quarterback to ever play the game of football.

They were having a good laugh about this on 960 so I figure it's worth noting that the Bengals have hired the great Hue Jackson to be special assistant to the head coach. Being a Bengals fans must be frustrating as I get the feeling if Lewis finally gets fired this offseason that Hue will probably sweet talk his way into being the replacement.

If I was the Bills owner I've already filled out McDermott's pink slip for black monday. McDermott really loved this guy as he continued to start him pick 6 after pick 6. He's started 4 games and thrown 12 interceptions which is a perfect 3 INT per game average. That's real bad and I'm pretty positive AJ McCarron would have been a lot better but they shipped him out because McDermott thought Peterman was better. Just awful talent evaluation at the position.

A lot of his picks were because his receivers can't catch though. But he's horrible. No denying it.

The interception he threw in the Texans game made me go nuts.

I feel like Peterman would make a good Tales from the Crypt episode where he sells his soul to the devil to set records in the NFL but the records are all for being the worst QB ever.

Le'veon Bell has two and a half hours left to report, but it's not going to happen. At this point there's only one thing left to say, from the man himself:

bye Felicia.

Good for him. It may backfire on him long run but I am all for players trying to take some power back from the owners and teams that use them like chattel.

Wonder if anyone will negotiate a big contract with him after Pittsburgh slaps the transition tag on him before next year. I kind of hope he signs a monster deal which Pittsburgh matches, that would be hilarious.

He was scheduled to make $14.5 million this season and then become a UFA. In what business is that being shortchanged when you are the highest paid person at your position in the industry? These professional leagues need salary caps to remain viable and lets not forget that just like any other business enterprise NFL owners have every right to make money. You will always be able to find players to play but there's not an unlimited pool of billionaires out there going to buy and run a team so while the players may think the league won't exist without them the CFL is proof that you will always find athletes that will play for less. The Steelers are the clear winner because Conner is replacing 90% of his play with 0% of the suspensions and drama.

... plus the 14.5m they didn't have to pay and can now rollover into next season.

Baker set a record for Passer Rating in a rookie game (with at least 20 passes). 151.3

What "power" is he taking back?

I simply do not understand what he has done here.....his whole thing was he wasn't making enough money. He has said it for years and even made a rap song about it.

So he forfeits $14.5 million dollars that he will NEVER make back, loses a year of football and the benefits of being an NFL player which are substantial , and likely drove down his value to other teams.

It's just so counter productive to what this was all about to begin with,

Bell's value hasn't changed at all, you can already see the Bucs, Browns, Jets, Colts and others just waiting to give him a huge deal. He's still one of the top 10-15 players in the league when healthy. Elite, game changing talent rarely becomes available even if it's on the transition tag.

I'd be shocked if he gets more guaranteed than he would have if he just signed with the Steeler's.

Owners won't want to reward him for sitting out - rightfully or wrongfully. And the suspensions.

The Steelers were offering like $15 million guaranteed, he'll easily get double that from someone. Frankly I expect he's on the Bucs next year, seems like the kind of textbook Glazers move to overpay him.

He'll probably get $45M over four years or something. He'll be fine.

Watch the game in LA get postponed because the smoke from the fires makes it unsafe. What a debacle for the league and it could get worse.
