And with Jake Muzzin injured the Leafs only have 6 defensemen on their roster.

Even with Muzzin in the lineup, they could use another decent defensive dman

We're rich after that Frolik trade. Got to show off the dough.

I admit I'm a bit puzzled. Yelesin's productions stats aren't good (4 points) - is he a standout defensively? He's also Stockton's only RHD.
You'd think if the Flames wanted injury insurance or if they were moving a roster defenceman, it's Davidson who'd get a call. Perhaps they (or other teams) want to see Yelesin in practice and maybe put him in a game to assess his value as a trade piece in a bigger deal.

Likely one of those - Right D vs Left D idiosyncrasies.
Davidson is LD, Yelesin is RD. I'm on board with minor injury to RD Hamonic.

Maybe they are just giving him some NHL salary and hanging out with the team on a road trip for a few games to keep in happy/reward him.

My guess is that this is a Christmas bonus transaction.

His $5k daily cap hit is insignificant to Tre ability to make a trade deadline deal

Maybe called up because of injury in Toronto to Reilly? Perhaps something brewing there... if Toronto needs a d-man, we trade one of ours and Yelesin fills in as our 7th guy until Valamaki returns from his injury.
Might be a stretch, but never know.

Kind of bizarre with no one missing, but still could be precautionary considering they are headed for a eastern swing. Complete speculation on my part, but maybe a hand shake sort of thing that allows a player who gave up KHL money for AHL money a bit of a boost.

This kid has a physical element to his game, you'd figure the team wouldn't want a prospect like him sitting in the press box but who knows, prospects also learn the NHL game from watching the big team first hand too.

Does Czarnik get a call up soon?
Has a great weekend with 2GP, 2G, 2A, 4PTS (AHL Totals: 12GP, 8G, 7A, 15PTS)
I'm guessing Treliving relies mostly on scouting reports from Cail MacLean and AHL staff for which players will get the call up rather than AHL numbers.
The lack of variety in the competition for the Heat probably makes it harder to judge a players level.

Don’t think he’ll get a sniff until a forward injury. No room for him in the lineup. Dube and Mangiapane passed him and took his role.
Asst GM Pascall who runs the farm team likely has a big say in who gets the called up.

Maybe some NHL salary/roster time was part of the deal when he agreed to sign with the Flames

Steinberg said the there are a couple players that are nursing injuries, not serious enough to take them out off the line up, but if there is a setback or something gets aggravated on the trip, then they have it covered with Yelesin up.
