I don't think I have ever spoken to anyone who had definitively benefited from professional career counselling.
Not to suggest that I consider it to be completely useless. It's a good idea for high-school kids to talk to career counsellors and take some aptitude tests to help them decide what they are better suited for, if they are unsure about choosing an education and career path.
But, the fact remains, I have never heard anyone in any field of work recommending career counselling, because they've used it and were happy about using it.
Just an observation; not trying to generalize. Others may have different feedback.
