Sitting at home by myself sipping some nice citrus flavored Vodka (Its Christmas eve and I'm feeling a bit I don't know, still). I was reflecting that I think I've been a part of this community for more then a couple of decades, I know that my join date was 2002, but I think it was probably a lot earlier then that. After about 64,000 posts or probably about 20,000 posts a decade. Discussing hockey, and politics, and movies and every other thing, I came to a realization.
That I may disagree with people here from time to time. I may be that annoying old fart that just pisses everyone off. But I love the heart of this community.
The discussions around mental illness, suicide, depression and the overwhelming responses tell me a lot about the kindness and generousity of this unique community.
The fact that we can all unit in agreement that Edmonton is just no good. That in one thread we can fight like cats and dogs and in other threads comes together is awesome to see.
When I went through a really tough time and did a kind of confessional, I got some great advice on this board. When I looked at Puppet Guys movies and felt a bit of inspiration and sent him some ideas, he encouraged it.
When I've met people like Bingo and Hrdina and Erik in person they were kind, good natured fun people to hang out with.
Where am I going with this, hang on I need to refill my drink and I'll be right back.
Oh yeah, in this day and age of things like the mean spiritedness of twitter and insult fests on other boards, this is an amazing almost safe oasis of idea sharing, humor, zaniness, esoteric hockey knowledge, and at times a better source of information then Wiki due to the broad knowledge base of its members.
In otherwords, I really value this community, its owners, its mods and its members except for Rube, I really hate that guy (Ok, no I don't I have nothing but respect for his posting style and his desire that comes through in his debates.
Anyways, I'm going to bring this to a close. This community is great and its valuable and its a insane island or sanity on the WWW.
Merry Christmas CP to one and all. Here's to a happy and healthy and wealthy Christmas season, enjoy your gifts, and your families. Take time to reflect on the people that might not be here this year. If you have the time of the ability, help someone less fortunate then you this year, everyone needs a leg up once in a while.

I’ll echo the general sentiments of the Captain. Lots of good people, a ton of knowledge and many great conversations here, on so many topics, hockey and much beyond. I value the community here quite a lot.

I will echo the comments made by Captain Crunch. Whenever a poster is in trouble or is looking for advice, this community can be counted on to help in anyway they can. Makes me proud to be a part of such a great group of people.
We should give a Christmas cheer to all the men and women of our armed forces who are overseas and cannot be home with their loved ones.
