I love that album too, but there are stories about how Paul ripped off the work of his collaborators and was reluctant to provide credit (ex. Ladysmith Black Mombazo, Los Lobos).

My position on Graceland, I suspect, is common. I adore it, and also believe the criticism of it is justified. People will love this album for as long as pop music exists, but they’ll also always be made aware of how it was created. His collaborators will not be erased, nor will they ever get their full due. And this will provoke discussion, as well as dancing. Ultimately, Graceland is a monument, and also a door.

Of all the albums that came out during my teenage years, this is the one that surprised me the most with how well it holds up 25 years later.
I listened to this album a ton in my teen years, shelved it for most of my 20s as new stuff came along, then about 6-7 years ago I dug it up again couldn’t believe how great it still sounded. Front to back it’s just a hell of a punk album, and despite being in late 30’s the songs are still appealing to me.
Not in a nostalgic “I remember my youth” kinda way, but more of a “man, these songs are STILL applicable to my life” kinda way.
Maybe it’s the album title, or the cover, or the snot nosed vocals, but given punks “live fast/die young” credo I didn’t expect an album named Dookie to still be appealing at this stage of my life.

I measure the strength of an album/song isn't the original purchaser re-listening to it years later. I think it is when a new generation of listeners find that song/album.
For my 13 yr old son, Dookie is that album, he loves it.

Pretty sure I was at that show as well. The Low are still around. Over the last three years they've put out two new records, and they're both excellent.
