So one fee goes up over 16% and another 13%. Kind of significant increases! Wow. Maybe they figured they could sneak them in and everyone would assume their bill is just more expensive becuase of a carbon tax.

EDIT: I assume the second listing for October is supposed to be 2016, not 2017?

Correct, and fixed!

Looks like atco increased as well (but just $.01/day and $.044/GJ):

Yes, my Enmax bills are also more substantial than usual. And for some reason, they've split my gas and electricity into separate bills and and are billing me in a staggered fashion.

Just got my Enmax bill today. My bill went up about 30% from the previous month. However, my natural gas usage was noticeably higher than the prior month. It's almost as if it was really cold for most of Dec 15 to Jan 17....

My carbon tax levy was $5.95 or less than 2% of the bill. Much ado about nothing in my books.

No one is disputing the increased usage, it's the fixed fees(as described above) that are the issue. Your carbon tax is also only for half a month, because it didn't come into effect until January, and next year will double, so don't go jumping with excitement yet.

I also had the highest enmax bill ever in January this year. Increase of about $100.

Looks like our bill is about the same as usual for this time of year... but slightly decreased usage.

The biggest cost is the gas rate and the distribution fees though.
Water usage can go way up in colder weather if you have your humidifier set too high. It just drips all day/night while your furnace runs. I learned the hard way.

Pretty hefty increase for me on the most recent bill. My last three bills have been averaging $342 and this bill is $602.

My electricity usage doubled over my last bill though because I was using the baseboard heaters in my garage a lot more because of the cold weather. I was also spending a lot of time in the garage building a dining table. Went from 807kwh to 1693kwh. Natural gas usage increased a bit but not significantly.

I'm closer to this as well- Average summer bills around $300 for gas/ electricity. Last bill was $575.

jeez guys, my utility bill went from $40.00 to $50.00 probably a big chunk of that was an increase in electricity usage because it was cold outside.

But I'm looking at people with $500.00 utility bills and my jaws dropping.

Mine was about double the normal in January. Spokesperson on CBC this morning said 80% of that was because of very cold weather.

Last year I stopped running my desktop PC 24/7, and I saw a noticeable reduction in my power consumption. I had it running because I frequently log into it remotely, and it also served as a file server. I now let it sleep (and wake it with magic packets), and access my files off of a hard drive attached to my router.

I know that it would obviously use some power to run 24/7, but it was probably to the tune of $20-25/month. It was a noticeable drop on the My Energy IQ thingy on the Enmax site and brought me closer to "similar homes". But my wife has three aquariums that have filters, air, and heat running, but there isn't a lot I can do about those...

Yeah, big jump here too. I haven't received my bill in the mail yet, but according to the online account its $371 - that's about $125 to $150 more than it usually is. Ugh.

Although I can't so much say it directly to her, but my wife's penchant for continually turning the heat up all the time this last month or two...I think she's going to be a lot more open to the "put a sweater on" line from now on .

(I should clarify the above prices are for everything - i.e. that's my gas, water, sewage, garbage/recycling, etc).

Mine went up significantly as well. $445 for January....close to $150 dollars higher than it was last year. I have only ever had a bill over $400 once before. Did use more natural gas than normal due to the weather but jebus...

Yeah, in our 2 or so years of owning our home, this is the highest bill we have ever had - by a significant margin.
