Tony Scott, Director of 'Top Gun,' Dies in Apparent Suicide

Director Tony Scott died in an apparent suicide Sunday by jumping off the Vincent Thomas Bridge near Long Beach, Calif. He was 68.
Los Angeles County Coroner Lt. Joe Bell told TheWrap that investigators had identified the deceased, Anthony David Scott of Beverly Hills, as the director and producer. The British-born "Top Gun" and "Crimson Tide" director was also the brother and producing partner of director Ridley Scott.
The U.S. Coast Guard told The Daily Breeze that a suicide note was found inside Scott's black Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge. Officials said that Scott climbed a fence on the south side of the bridge's apex and leapt off "without hesitation" around 12:30 p.m., according to The Breeze.
Wow, crazy stuff. Hard to believe such a successful director would kill himself in that fashion. You have to wonder if there was some sort of substance abuse involved.

I have a lot of movies that he's had his hands in, but Top Gun is my favorite and one of my all time favorites period.
It's cheesy, but it's also the only movie I can recite word for word from start to finish (as I'm sure anyone who grew up in the 80's can say the same).
After that... I'd say Spy Game.
True Romance is awesome right up until the end of the Walken/Hopper scene... then the movie falls apart for me.
Which reminds me... while you're saying 'Hi' to Goose for us, tell Dennis to hurry up and get reincarnated.

I'll wait for some insight as to why he killed himself before I decide if I have any sympathy for him. Picking a public place in broad daylight, in front of many boaters (including a harbour cruise with many passengers), to quit at life is pretty classless considering the dozens of more discreet ways you could finish yourself off.
I don't care who you are... no one wants to see your body go from living to dead in the form of 'splat'. Now everyone who witnessed that will watch his movies and have an image of him falling to his death. Do that noise at home.
Spy Game is so awesome. One of my favorite movies for sure. Too bad, but if the tumour rumour is true I can possibly understand it. Still a pretty crazy turn of events.

Some sites/news outlets are reporting he had an inoperable brain tumor.
Suicide seems excusable in this case. Still a crazy way to do it.
What's wrong with the 'ol Running a Hose from your Exhaust to your Window Trick? You know, do that in the staff parking section at the local hospital and you'll be found by someone who can handle dead bodies, no kids will see it and you needn't have concern about your loved ones finding you like that.
Good for him though. Suffering though whatever treatment he'd get just to buy him a few months of waiting around to die is nonsense. 68 is a good haul.
Honestly, I don't blame the guy. Some people aren't built for going through many months of treatment and pain, seeing their familys suffering with them, knowing it will be for naught. Pretty sure I'm not either.
Unfortunately until there's a medical, and legal, way to end your life, this is what people have to resort to.
