Default celebrity death - Caroll Spinney dead at 85

if you're not familiar with the name, Mr Spinney was both Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch.

Quote:
"Caroll was an artistic genius whose kind and loving view of the world helped shape and define Sesame Street from its earliest days in 1969 through five decades, and his legacy here at Sesame Workshop and in the cultural firmament will be unending," the statement said.

once more for the road, Mr. Spinney:

Very sad, I remember growing up with Big Bird and the rest of the cast of Seasame Street.

Some great childhood memories when it came to Big Bird

RIP

what an important figure of the last 50 years!

watched his documentary on the plane once, pretty interesting

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2358456/

He (Big Bird) was meant to be on the illfated Challenger mission

two famous instances of Big Bird coming to terms with death- one is the Henson one posted above, the other of course- good bye Mr Hooper

How sad. I’ve just recently been getting reacquainted with Sesame Street through my grandchildren. What a fantastic show and Big Bird a perennial favourite.

Sadly, Sesame Street's deal with HBO has meant it's become largely irrelevant to an entire generation of children. It's not on CBC either I believe. No kids = no more marketing tie ins that help sustain the brand. Missing out on a deal with the main streaming platforms just might have killed Sesame Street.

I have kids in the prime demographic and to them it's all about what's on Netflix. While there's some shows of quality there - it's not Sesame Street.

It's on Treehouse.

We watch it every morning. Once they sing letter of the day means I need to get my arse in gear and out the door.
