Chance to get Bedard is slim even if you try to tank

Remember when the pens were in financial dismay and they won the Crosby lottery?
Remember when the oilers couldn't get a deal sorted and were threatening to move and they won the McDavid lottery.
Really feel like it's between the flames and Arizona, flames just need to fall low enough.
I don't know what sutter's expected to do if gaudreau leaves and tkachuk is a year away from UFA. If the team loses it's primary offensive provider for nothing, then how is this franchise planning to fake us all out and pretend to contend?

And really how many blow up rebuilds have actually worked? You get a crap shoot at ending up as the #1 Pick - spend years trying to require all the pieces again.

I’m not advocating for a tank but I think next year could have 3 franchise players at the top
There’s a large Russian risk with one though

Lots of really good consolation prizes.
Top 5 picks aren't a guarantee, but they are the tickets with the best odds of winning.

More than perpetual treadmill teams have actually worked?
One of the Lightning (Hedman), Oilers (McDavid/Draisaitl), or Avalanche (MacKinnon/Makar) are going to win the cup this year.

Just pointing out that next years draft is special for more reasons than Bedard

Flames have a remarkably good season compared to what was predicted in the preseason.
CP: "Not good enough! Blow it up! Tank!!!!!!"
Even if you do that, it's still a crapshoot that you will get the pick you hope for.
It's just not a good strategy coming off a winning season. Had we missed the playoffs you may have had me.

Flames have to do a massive tear down to go from a top team to a bottom feeder.
Going to be a tough offseason too bad this year ended on such a bad note

Is this really surprising when our best player is set to become a UFA and our second best player an RFA with arbitration rights?

The Flames as it stands have no pathway to a cup.

Tank for Bedard? Seriously? You really think Bedard would make a difference? He'll be up against the refs and the league. It would only make a difference if McDavid is out of the league.

McDavid is one of the best reasons to do a tank right now.

With gaudreau possibly gone, and tkachuk soon after, wasn't it sort of understood that this was the all of nothing, chips all in year. This wasn't a year about progression, or building up a program, it was a one year attempt at something great. It would take a miracle to get a team anywhere close to as good as this if gaudreau is gone.

Sign Gaudreau if under $9M/season for 4 years
