Yes, but Hanifin would bring back a legit top 6 forward with term and a decent contract (like Hanifin has).
Also, I think Kylington has passed him, and within another year (after Gio fades), Valimaki and/or Mackey may catch him as well.

Chiarot ####in blows. Tyler Pitlick on defense.

This is the first year Kylington has been given real minutes & real responsibility. The outlook is very good but its still year 1 in that respect. While in an ideal scenario I could see him pushing Hanifin down, my next concern is that Valimaki hasn't proven anything. Mackey even less.
All we know about Valimaki at this point is that his development has been stunted and at his current level he couldn't play (or wasn't trusted to) under Sutter's system. Jury is out on Mackey to be fair, but the point stands that he hasn't proven anything even if its from lack of opportunity at the NHL level.
The asset we get back better be someone absolutely proven at the NHL level with definite upside otherwise that could blow up real quick.

The defense is fine. We have Valimaki, Stone & Mackey in the wings.
We need forward help. Maybe a play can be made for Toffoli.
Do not trade for 38 y.o. UFA Gio.

Was at the game last night, first time watching the entire warmup in a while. Johnny spent the last couple of minutes practicing shooting top right corner from the face off circle. Consistently hit it, saw something like 8 in a row in the exact same spot. When he got the pass from Tkachuk, took the exact same shot from the exact same spot and buried it in the exact same top right corner.
First time seeing warmup practice translate in game, was pretty cool to see.

Gio talk aside, I do want a forward too. But I haven’t heard the team linked to too many names, unless someone else has. I haven’t looked into it much, so it’s entirely possible. But the names that I have seen are Chiarot and Gio so far and there’s a clear opportunity to improve on the left side.
Darryl has also been very critical of his D this season, more so than his forwards who’ve probably been the worser of the 2 groups. But in Darryl’s world, I think it goes as he says. So if he wants defense, I think Treliving will give him defense.
Hopefully they find some way of adding a forward too, they’ve looked better overall since going with the more optimal lineup, but there just isn’t enough finish up front (out of the top line) and I think we can all agree on that.

I don’t think Darryl wants different D, not even when he makes critical comments. He wants them to play better. IMO he was totally behind getting Z and G.

Yeah I'm not sure who Chiarot is replacing in the lineup if we get him...
Likely Kylington and Treliving should be fired on the spot if that was the case.

They've turned out pretty well, maybe we do need some of that not good Ben Chiarot.

Some targets that have the same expiration as Toffoli (24/25):
Eberle - 5.5m
Bailey - 5m
Wilson - 5.167m —> Assuming the Caps go rebuild/retool, so doubtful
Hoffman - 4.5m
Hagel - 1.5m
Mittelstadt - 2.5m
If you really want to go big:
Scheifele - depends on Jets’ contending status after this season
Tried to go for teams that are likely sellers.

I'm worried it'll be quite high, a first ++, point a game guy signed through next year at 5.25, if I'm Vancouver now is the perfect time to sell but Flames cost would be too much (and they're not taking Monahan without adding even more)

I like the idea of pilfering Seattle's RW.
Grab Eberle and Jarnkrok in one fell swoop.
That'd definitely do the trick for the forwards.

I still think this team is an elite #1 dman, #2 center and a performing depth forward away from being a true contender.
If Monahan can effectively step into the #2 center role, it opens up soooooooo many options for us. You're arguably a #1 dman and an effective bottom 6 forward away from a team capable of winning a cup IMO.

I think by playoffs assuming we make it ....Mackey has made it known throughout the organization that he's got a good enough game to step up and contribute here. Mitch Love raves about how he can use him in any situation.
As for forwards....maybe Monahan is starting to round back into form . He was damn good in face-offs last 2 games .....61% to 71% last night from Saturday.
