He looked like a great rookie his first season - all great goals. Decent 2nd season too in which he upped his point totals. Then a switch went off - literally a switch went off that made everything stop working.
Hope he gets it together. I thought he was a player with a really great set of tools, and a really great toolbox too, but just started to have almost an unwillingness to use them all. Maybe he needs the right coach and situation to turn it back on, or maybe he is simply not an NHL'er.

Ugghh...as far as I can tell Feaster just drafted this guy because he was tall.
Knowing the Flames they probably would have taken Girgensons with that #12 pick, but looking back and seeing Wilson, Hertl, Taraveinen, and Vasilevskiy in between and Jankowski is still rough.

No, it was Jankowski or bust... but bust had already been taken first overall by the Oilers.

He still has a chance to be the best player in that draft!
He just has to beat out Forsberg, Girgesons Wilson, Hertl, and Vasilevskiy - and probably 100 other guys.

Say what you will, but he has played more NHL games than 4 of the players taken ahead of him and 9 of the other 2012 first round picks.

Don't forget we also got that 2nd round pick, which was used to draft Sieloff....who was traded for Alex Chiasson....who the Flames didn't qualify, and has since mostly played for the Oilers and Canucks, our greatest rivals.
We did get the fantastic "Never go Full Feaster" meme out of all of this though.

People sometimes forget that the baseline for a mid 1st round pick is everyday NHLer. Janko was slightly lower than these expectations, but he did play a regular shift at one time and that's better than usually a third of 1st rounders. In a single draft there are only a handful of 20-30+ goal scorers and they usually are drafted in the top 10.

Or poor NY Islanders selecting Griffin Reinhart
Honestly, the fact that Forsberg and Vasilevskiy ended up being the best players in that draft speaks volumes about how weak it was.
Doesn't excuse the Jankowski pick, but hey, it could have been much worse for us.

Not that it's Jankowski's fault, but I wanted Teraveinen at the time. That's what I remember the most about that draft.

Promising at first, as you indicated. But then the compete level just seemed to flatline, out of nowhere. It happens but still a shame. He had career third line ceiling potential imo. Could have made many millions.

Haha the Oilers doubled down on busts that draft. Traded the eventual pick that got the Isles Barzal for Peter Grffin Reinhart and also 2 seconds went to the Isles.
Also didn't this happen after Boston took the exact offer for Dougie and Chia pet went full banana mode and panic bought Reinhart?
The good ol'days.
