How they haven't figured out tracking the puck past the goal line 16yrs later still baffles me

It sucks, but I can see the argument for being inconclusive. I think it was in, but the parallax effect does cause reasonable doubt.
I think if the Flames would have held their hands up like they scored or challenged it immediately, it would have helped make the decision the other way, but nobody thought anything of it right away.

yes far more thorough and generally factually correct (and mostly Flames homerific) than I was expecting. although could have emphasized the game 6 OT trip

Of course today even if in the goal would have been called back for goaltender interference by Saprykin.

Flames gave everything they had in game 6, and it sure looked like they won the damn thing when that puck crossed the line. Sadly, by the time game 7 rolled around they just didn't have anything left in the tank. 16 years later and it still hurts.

It pains me to say but I felt like for the first time in the playoffs that year they played tentative.
They weren’t playing the same way we were accustomed and maybe it was an empty gas tank, after pouring everything into game 6, or maybe it was playing scared to lose.
Game 7 was the worst game they played throughout the run.
That lacklustre game and the 5-on-3 penalty call that allowed TB to win game 4 by a score of 1-0, coupled with an identical play where pretty sure it was Simon got taken down in the same manner where no penalty was called - I can’t remember what game that was - are the most painful memories from that run.
We got screwed, whether the puck was in or not.
It was in tho obviously.
Hopefully the hockey gods settle the score one day.
I’ll never forget how unified we were as a city, as a fan base, as humans all cheering for the same thing with no malice or ill will within any of us.
What a year it was!

The puck hopped and the angle is forcing perspective. No goal.

Great video.
Still hurts me.
To this day I have never seen a Tampa player holding up the Cup. Was totally scared it was going to happen during that vid.

The problem with the parallax effect is that it requires the puck to have height in order for it to affect any sort of perception.
For the Sam Bennett example, we can deduce that the puck may have been an inch or so off the ground, so the parallax effect could allow us to believe that part of the puck was not across the line. At least not conclusively.
But for the Gelinas example, the puck went off a skate and was almost definitely still touching the ground. Pucks coming off of skates are rarely airborne. Here, the puck was partially sideways - this shows that while the puck may had some upwards momentum, it was not enough for it to leave the ground.
Therefore, the parallax effect had no impact on the Gelinas goal, and the puck was in beyond a reasonable doubt. It is therefore conclusive and the Flames were robbed a cup.
