Goal differences of division leaders:
Boston +35
Washingon +26
St.Louis +24
Flames -8
The Pacific sucks
With 55 points we'd be 5th in Metropolitan with 1-4 more games played than every team above us.

Pacific is brutal this year. So hopefully Flames can have a better post ASG run than they had last season to take advantage and win the division back-to-back.

From game 26 through game 47 the Flames earned 32 points in 22 games. That's a 119 point pace for the season. If they kept that pace up over the final 35 games they'd finish with 106 points, one back of last year's 107 total points.
If they earned the same number of points that last year's team did in the final 35 games they'd finish with 98 points. Many people say last year's team played poorly after the ASG or the 2nd half. The decline didn't start until after game 64. The 2018-19 team only earned 18 points in the final 18 games. At the end of game 64 the Flames we 14.073 points above the black line and were on pace for 114 points. Between games 41 and 64 they were on a 125 point pace. From the first game after the ASG (game 52) through game 64 the Flames were on a 114 point pace.
tl;dr The narrative that last year's team was terrible after the second half and/or the ASG is completely incorrect. The downturn started with game #65, but even in the final 14 games they were on a 105 point pace and finished the year with 107 points, good for tops in the Western Conference.

I can't give you a snake, but in order to get to 96 points in 82 games, a team needs to average 1.17 points per game.
Flames are 72 points in 64 games....1.12 points per game, so are just under the snake line - by around 3.2 points. They need to average around 1.35 points per game to the end of the season if my math is correct.
That's 12 wins out of 18 games: .670 or so. Not easy, but doable.

This year you might not need 96.

My favourite aspect of the snake is visualising the momentum of the team ( good or bad). The snake represents how no win or loss is meaningless.

After 64 games the red snake sits 2.927 points below the black line and 17 points below the purple snake. The red snake is on pace for 92 points. A record of 12-6-0 record (0.667%) in the remaining 18 games would get the snake to 96 points. The soonest the red snake could move above the black line is in 4 games. If the Flames go 17-0-1 in the remaining 18 games they will tie the purple snake with 107 points at the season's end.

I don't mind this route to the playoffs where it starts in March. Last year's cake walk did nothing to facilitate success. Let's hope they carry this fight into the 1st round.
