I expected Gaudreau might be worth between 6 and 10 wins on his own (which may well have been the case). Therefore, I wanted him to play in the AHL, because I thought all this did was get the Flames 10th-12th overall pick. Instead it got them the playoffs.
I lacked faith in the rest of the roster.

I thought we would be a bottom feeder again this year. Crow.
Then, I thought we were totally boned when Gio went down. Crow.
THEN, I thought the Kings would beat the Oilers and Flames in the last couple games. Crow.
Hat trick of crow never tasted so good.

This is the biggest crow for me too. I wanted Lindholm. Now I wouldn't have it any other way. To be fair to Lindholm, he's a stud too. Just not as good as Monahan.

That's not how it works. You have to eat both your stress words and the crow too.

Lifetime Suspension

There were two times I lost hope in the season, the predictable times. The 8 game losing streak, thought no way do they come back from that. Also when Giordano went down and they limped into the trade deadline, I was opening pondering what one of Russell or Wideman could bring back in a trade.
Don't blame anyone for losing faith at any point(s). It's a long brutal six month season.
The only time I hate it are the chicken littles who pop into the game threads when they're down by a goal or two, the guys who throw out the one line posts, "tires have fallen off", that sort of thing. Could rattle off a couple usernames.

Pre-season I thought we were bottom six for sure. Figured we might have a good chance at McDavid. Early in the season when the wins were coming I changed my tune pretty quickly though. Still thought we might end up 9-10, but I think I phrased it as 7-10 a few times.
I was one of the few people though that said the loss of Gio wouldn't tank our progress. Actually I remember being scared for about one day, but rethought it before the next game. As I put it then, there's been multiple times the team wasn't supposed to accomplish what they have, and they just keep doing it. Why doubt them now?
But yeah, like MMF, I don't blame anyone for doubting at any time. It really was remarkable and unlikely.

Gonna take this opportunity to gloat and say I called it august 1. Johnny wins Calder and Flames make the playoffs.
My only regret is not putting some money on it.

I remember doing that in past years, because in all honesty if those Flames teams got down by a couple of goals they were done. I learned quite quickly this year though that this group was different, you never saw the same kind of resignation from them that past Flames teams had when things didn't go their way

It's too bad he received a lifetime ban. I would have enjoyed seeing some crow eating from DOOM here.

Did some digging and it seems the highest actual prediction I've went with is 20-21st finish back in mid-October. After that I've mostly went with something like "don't care, all is gravy".
Shame is me.

The number one contributing factor to the Flames success that I didn't see coming was the rapid decline of the Sharks and the Kings. I saw potential for improvement, but not to the extreme that could get the Flames past a couple of the league's powerhouse teams. Amazing development this season. Wonderful result and the future only looks brighter. Make my order southern fried please.

I truly thought the Flames were done when Gio went down.
I still can hardly believe they're in. This has been the most amazing season ever. The game Thursday was one of the best nights of my life.
If you would have told me at the beginning of the year that the Flames and Jets would finish in a playoff spot and the Kings, Sharks, Avs, and Stars would be outside....I would have laughed at you.
Happiest crow eating ever. I honestly can't doubt this team in any way anymore, I fully believe they can beat the dirty Nucks.

Speaks volumes about the competitiveness and small margins of today's NHL. One small drop in the level of play can result in a quick tailspin down the standings.

I thought we would be better than Edmonton. Wrong about everything else.
