You should give Doris Burke (basketball)a listen. She is a total pro and one of the very best color people in the business IMO. Yeah her voice sounds different than a male but she would never be accused of being monotone or dry. She is sharp, knowledgeable and drops insights and analysis throughout the game.

Honestly I think the bigger issue is that a lot of hockey broadcasters are just not as good as what you find in other sports. For some of these color guys, I really question how much they prepare. The vast majority are former players looking to make some money in retirement.

Well, then compare her to those other bad broadcasters. IMO she gets a bigger share of criticism compared to some that deserve it as much or more.

Yeah, I could listen to Leah Hextall all day. Cassie Campbell, would rather rip my eardrums out when she calls Flames games, although I do like her on the HNIC panel, which seems like a MUCH more comfortable setting for her.

Heh...ESPN had Hextall call a 'Hawks' game earlier this season, she was OK on the PBP, but, her excited, high pitched squealing, goal calls took some getting used to. Although many homer announcer goal calls (I am looking at YOU, Edmonton) are just as annoying!
