Agreed. The article isn't anything to get upset by. If anything, it is a complimentary article.

The fact is that rope-a-dope, low possession hockey isn't the best recipe for success in the postseason. It worked against Vancouver, largely because they also are a weak possession squad. But against a team that plays a strong possession game, more often than not its going to be a losing strategy over seven games - unless you get otherworldly goaltending.

And surprise, surprise, the Ducks proved just that.
It's not like low-possession was the game plan the Flames were banking on. This is a young, rebuilding team that was a seller at the deadline. They played up to their strengths as much as they could. Calling it "unsustainable" misses the entire point.

Since you are using a boxing reference, think of it as the Flames playing above their weight class because they had no more competition in their own weight class. Being underweight wouldn't be the plan from the start , but that doesn't mean you don't strive to succeed with the tools you have.

Spector is dumb generally, it really hardly matters what topic he's writing on.

We were the 7th last remaining team in the league playing hockey this year. Seems we sustained it better than the vast majority of the NHL.

reason i don't feel this was a flash in the pan is that the flames have been a generally good and winning team for longer than just this season. Going back to last season, particularly after the canucks line brawl game, this team has come together and played a strong team game.

further more, we weren't reliant on great goaltending. Did folks have career years, yes, and i do expect some to regress in their outputs, but there are others that i feel have room to grow and perhaps increase their totals as they mature.

it will be curious to see the kind of turnover this roster sees this offseason. will guys like raymond, colborne, backlund, granlund, bollig jones, jooris remain in the mix or will management look to upgrade these, as well as increase our general defensive depth. the other question mark is what happens with hiller/ramo.

regardless full marks to the flames players and the coaching staff for what they were able to acheive. Calling it luck or unsustainable, etc, seems pretty disrespectful and an injustice to these guys who worked their butts off from the start of training camp down to their last shift in the playoffs.
