I think it's better if the Canucks get dragged down into the dog race. If this comes down to LA, SJ and CGY for one spot, our chances are not good. Vancouver losing a couple means 2nd is also up for grabs, which helps our chances.

So yes, we want the Sharks to win this.

Arizona is starting to take this tanking seriously, I'm not even sure the Oil can compete with this;

They don't look much better really, and they aren't getting results, but there isn't that pathetic hangdog thing going on. They seem to be trying, which you didn't see much earlier in the season.

They were still putting up a fight in the last five minutes of this game even though they must have known they were going to lose since the first period.

Also, this new coach doesn't look like he wants to kill somebody, or himself, all the time.

I hate the Oilers as much as the next guy, but there does seem to be a difference.

The Stars pull out the 3-2 OT win against the Islanders. The Isles tied it with 2 seconds left in reg time and then Eakin wins it in OT. The Coyotes sure suck as the Ducks scored 2 SHGs in the 4-1 win. The Ducks are now tied with the Predators for 1st overall because the Predators lost 3-1 to the Devils. The Bolts win 3-0 over the Sabres. Vasilevskiy with the 28 save SHUTOUT and Lindback takes the loss against his former team. Capitals win 5-3 over Columbus, OV scores twice and has 43 goals now. Does anyone want to catch the Bruins for the last playoff spot? The Panthers blew another chance to tie the Bruins in points with the 3-2 loss in reg time. Hammond is doing wonders for the Senators, too bad he doesn't have those horseshoes that Dubnyk has, Wild win in the SO.

Since becoming a solo coach for the oilers

Todd Nelson has a 6 win 14 loss 6 OT or SO win record.

For gf it looks like they've scored 2.5 gf and 3.07 ga during Nelson's tenure.

They might look better but frankly the results speak for themselvs.

Over an 82 game season the Oilers would get roughly 72 points and have bottom 3rd scoring and bottom 3rd ga for a season

which would be a extrapolated 5 point improvement over last year

a decrease of 3 points in the lockout season if it was stretched out to 82 games

and a decrease of I think 2 points compared to the 2011-2012 season.

So realistically under Nelson in a results oriented business they're really not that much better.

Now we know that the Roster is horrible up there, and that's not Nelson's fault, but if your looking for Oiler management's justification for cutting Nelson loose as they go (snicker) big game hunting for a coach next season, its pretty apparent.
