Back in April my son had a crash on his scooter and got banged up pretty good. It was something that he had so much fun with, and would get great exercise on it before it happened. But he got really gun-shy getting back on it as a result. 4 months later he finally got back on it (and I got back on mine as well to join him). My toddler wanted to get in on the action as well, so she got to go for a ride as well/refused to get off of mine, and we all had such a blast!

On the flip side, he could have also made a crap-ton of money selling the place and decided to spread the wealth to those people who helped.

I'm not saying people should do this, or that I would either but that's a level of "good person" I would like to know existed.

I was going to write a post about the struggles with being a care giver to a parent, The sleepless nights where you struggle to get them to the bathroom and or having to wipe their bottom when they are done. Washing thier hair when needed or rubbing a leg that is in pain. Of course there's the numerous trips to the doctor and specialists. Dispite all that I took on the job with pride and I was happy that I could make difference in their life and make things less stressful and easier for them.

That all changed when my 84 year old mother passed away last night as she lost the battle with congestive heart failure and A fib. Her body was worn out and it was time.

I heard her yell that she needed help to sit up in bed. I asked what she wanted to do and she walked a few steps and grabbed on to her walker and sat down. Right then her head slumped down and her body started to go limp and she slumped over to her right side and slumped forward. I caught her and we both gently fell on the bedroom carpet. I looked into her eyes as we layed side by side asking her what was wrong. She couldn't speak and I watched her breathing become shallow and her eyes to flicker. I could see the life draining from her eyes as I was talking with a woman from 911 and then she was gone. Fire and ambulance were there a few minutes later and dispite their heroic efforts they couldn't save her.

I will always remember her face and eyes as she slowly passed away. I was devistated but knew that she knew that she didn't die alone and I was happy she got to see my loving face before she passed on. The bond we shared during the struggles of the past 4 weeks are memories that I will always take with me.

Never forget to tell a loved one that you love them. Thanks for letting me talk.

I'm so sorry, Dion. I know how much you loved her and were loved by her. I know a little bit about caregiving (not to a parent) and how difficult but rewarding it can be. It was truly a gift you gave her, caring for her as you did for so many years. I hope that you will be able to find some comfort in the many happy memories you have of her. A friend wrote these words, after going through a few losses, and they've always brought me some comfort; I hope they do you as well.
