Calgary Police Scanner?

I understand in 2018 or so they went to encrypted radios - but wondering if there’s any apps for the public to listen in? Hearing a lot of sirens in the west end, and was interested to learn what it could be.

Would also like to know, a guy I know who has MS and can't do much asked me about this once and as far as I knew they were encrypted.

Notta, if you could manage to decrypt it, it's illegal to rebroadcast. Not illegal to listen though. Only select media now have access.

This has been a real challenge for media since the late 2000s (iirc). Encrypted, then digitizing, and getting a scanner to pick up anything is going to be almost impossible

CPS did provide keys for media (for I THINK a substantial cost?) but I believe even that ended

The encryption now is super secure, 256 key

don't need a scanner, find your local neighborhood facebook page and join it. everytime you hear a siren or low flying helicopter, make a post about it - someone will have the answer.

also never do a search of any topic, always assume you are the first person in the group to ever need a plumber, or a guy to fix your garage door. And lastly, never, but any product or service, even if it relatively inexpensive, without a recommendation from everyone in the group.

And when you ask for a recommendation, include that you are not looking to pay an arm and a leg, even if you want professional craftsmanship.

No....but it WOULD get me fired.

And honesty, looking at policing through the lens I do is really boring unless you know what you are looking at/listening to (unless I could put the caller/radio-feed through the livestream). Otherwise, it just looks like someone sitting in front of a computer.
