Probably the only Flame player who 100% goes out every single shift and earns that monster contract he signed. I believe this team is a stanley cup contender if everyone on this team gave the same effort that Gio gives.
Always irks me that so many posters are always want to trade him. Glad they dont run our team and glad he's our captain.

Only 8 d-men counted over 1000 points in the NHL.
Two played for the Flames.

While this is true, I'm not sure how much credit we can take for the second.
Housley already had 839 points prior to joining the Flames and got a total of 238 as a Flame. In order to get him, we had to give up that other 1000 point defenseman.
edit: fun fact I just noticed: MacInnis had 822 points as a Flame, so between the two of them we got 1060 points.

He's a pretty underrated guy. His name is rarely mentioned amongst the best defensemen in the game but he's consistently very good all around compared to a rover like Karlsson.

The lazy play he had on Pittsburgh's 9th goal really surprised me, because it's so rare that you look at something Gio did and say "well what the hell man". And it was with a minute left in an 8-1 game, so you can forgive him if he wasn't 100%.
He looks like he could play forever.

Even in a direct comparison of offensive defencemen he is one of the best currently playing.
7th in goals for active defencemen and 15th in points.
All that while only being 24th in games played.

Straight up beast. I hope the Flames can make a cup run or 2 while he's still on the roster. I love the kids on the back end, but its that much harder to win when a player like Gio is no longer around. I firmly believe that if the Flames are ever to win a cup with this core, it has to include Gio.
I wish he could play forever. I too was worried about his contract, but he's literally getting better as he gets older and will certainly get some Norris love this season if he continues like this.

Gio has to be one of the most underrated defensemen on planet earth. Guy should be mentioned in the same breath as players like Doughty, Subban, Pietrangelo and etc. After his contract is over, my guess is he’ll be in line to have his number retired by the organization for the outstanding years of service in all areas.

3rd in GP
3rd in Goals
4th in Assists
4th in Points (5 points back of 3rd place)
