Yup. Win or lose it's been way more entertaining. Team defence still needs some work but I have confidence that will happen. Watching games is fun again for the first time in two years. Too bad that gully hiring set the franchise back (wasted 2 years) like it did but we seem to be on the right track now. Now for a true number 1 goalie...

Peters deserves Jack Adams These are the Flames most of us expected heading into the last three seasons. Jonas Hiller losing his ability, plus two seasons of Gulutzan pretty much made us forget how dynamic a core Gaudreau/Monahan/Brodie/Giordano/Backlund/Bennett were looking to be after 2015. I don't even believe the Hamilton/Hanifin/Ferland/Lindholm trade made much of a difference on the ice (IMO we do clearly miss Ferland's package), Peters would have squeezed a ton out of last year's roster instead of only squeezing the life out.

A. The trade has made a huge difference. Hanifin has allowed Brodie to move up and Hamonic to pair with a more compatible player. Lindholm makes the top line way better, especially on the forechecking and defensively.

B. I like Ferland fine, but his package? Can't say so.

One thing I am loving about Peters is the reduction in the number of penalties.

This season so far 8.1 PIM a game average tied for 7th.

last season 11.1 PIM a game average 30th.

discipline and poor special teams was essentially the Flames undoing last season, now it is a point of strength and I think that coaching is a big part of that.

How did Carolina not perform better? He seems good. Scary good.

(I know, wrong team but I wanted to make that comment anyway)

One large aspect that needs improvement would be the PK. 75.9% is good for 24th in the league. Its simply not good enough. I guess it is debatable whether or not this is a function of the coaching or goal tending though.

I don't know if there is any way to quantify it, but to me it seems we have possession of the puck a lot more than not.

He's also coaching a really good team. I thought last season already that it was easily a playoff roster with a good coach, and this year the roster is better.

Also, sample size is still smallish for a coach.

That said, I too really like him so far. It's good hockey, and it's winning hockey.

I'm somewhat questioning the way the goalies have been handled, but there too it remains to be seen how things develop.

So far so good, I’ll reserve definitive judgement for when top players slump and how he addresses this, but I’m optimistic!
