Any update on Iginla's Jersey Retirement?
...because that's gotta come out soon, right? I'd like to make the trip up from the states but planning is helpful. I've been trying to stay up on things on CP but admittedly it's something I guess I could have missed.
When do these things typically get announced with other teams? I plead ignorance as I have never made a special trip for a jersey retirement, but this is Iginla. TIA!

I would also make plans to be there from Fort Mac. I suspect tickets will be hard to come by.

Radio was talking about perhaps the Boston game as he resides there now and he did well there. Or What about Penguins with Sid here?

I think we should do it against Dallas. They drafted him and it’ll help sell tickets to an otherwise uninteresting match up. Boston and Pit will be a hot ticket regardless.

Weird take as I assume the game against dallas will be very exciting and full of high octane players.

How about against Edmonton (his hometown) for the Nov game? Hockey night in Canada/ Saturday night against McDavid? I don’t think anything can top that.

Pittsburgh and Boston will always be a way better sell than Dallas.
Dallas is a middle of the pack draw. Seguin and Benn are great players but people(and by that I mean a big number of casual fans) aren't coming to see just them.

It should be during a BoA game. And then Rogers Place should be forced to retire it too.

No.
That sad excuse for an arena/franchise/city does not deserve to have anything Iginla-retirement associated with it, lest it raise their status even one nano-Planck.

The jersey retirement should be against the Wild. I believe Iginla is still the top scorer against that franchise.

This just makes me sad because I have a sinking feeling that the team will manage to screw this up somehow. Whether it's by just doing Forever a Flame, or even worse treating him like Theo and not doing anything at all and just leaving the number untouchable but not retired.
Come on Flames. This is the easiest decision ever. You retire his jersey and you do it this year.

I imagine they would want to do it on a HNIC game?

The Flames already screwed things up by not announcing a jersey retirement at the retirement press conference. I hope that is rectified with an announcement before the season starts.
Also, I have changed my mind about the retirement game. It should be the December 12th game vs Philly.

There is no doubt his jersey gets retired this season. It's pretty much a no brainer.
Against Boston would make the most sense imo.

Theo situation is different. Forever a Flame is more likely. I agree though, the Flames will manage to muck this one up somehow. Remember when they retired Vernon and used the banner with the current Flames colours? Vernon never even wore that jersey. I was surprised they fixed it some years down the road and hung one up that matched Lanny’s #9 banner.

I'd like to see them have '12' painted behind the nets for the entire year
