They might want to work it in with his Hall of Fame induction year or spread it out. His kids are young & I imagine that he’s pretty busy with their sports.

These things require the player to agree on the date and what not as well

I am not so sure yet, lets see how the year goes. King made a comment at the retirement leading me to believe there are plans.

That may not mean much. King was talking about arena plans more than a decade ago.

Yeah, there's no reason the Flames don't want to do it - it's more money for them. Iggy strikes me as a guy who likes to do it his way, so they have to work with him.
Lots of times at these things a retired player is with another organization as a coach or in management, so it's a no-brainer to coordinate. Iggy isn't with any team, lives in Boston, and who knows when it's convenient for him to come out. Maybe if he's visiting family in Edmonton around Christmas it can work.
There also might be some sort of money involved, either for him or for a charity, that needs to be worked out.

How they haven't scheduled this for the game on 12/12 is beyond me.

What is the rush? Maybe wait until he's in the Hall of Fame before doing it. They should be honouring Fleury first anyway. It's been far too long.

I think its more Iginla then anything.
He doesn't seem like the player who likes a big show and could be putting it off for the time being.

I guess we will probably have to wait a year or two until this actually happens.
It does seem a little quick to retire his number especially when he only retired this summer. I have faith that the organization won't screw this up, but some confirmation or some kind of subtle hint would be nice for the fans.

It is probably wise to ensure he doesn't unretire up to Edmonton or something that's a dealbreaker like that.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Didn't he sign a deal with the Flames to retire as a member? So if he unretired wouldn't the Flames own his rights? Or am I way off?

Flames hosted his retirement announcement in the summer. But I don't think there was any one-day contract, and even if there was, it would have expired and he's technically a UFA again.

Something seems fishy between Iginla and the Flames.
No retiring as a Flame one-day contract. No immediate plans announced by the organization to retire his jersey. Not a word from either the organization or Iginla after he left town.
Honestly, this should have happened at our very first home game. He is a first-ballot HoFer and the greatest Calgary Flame ever. To me, it's absolutely unacceptable.
Wish The Athletic would look into this.

or maybe it's nothing and Iginla just didn't want to do one this year. I'm sure he's more worried about his kids being in school over having his jersey retired.

I think some are looking for an issue where there isn't one. Nothing wrong to making sure it is done right for all parties. Who know, maybe they are waiting for arena announcement so they can unveil a statue for retired numbers/players that will be moved to the plaza.

We'd need a 20-foot statue of Lanny before we get one of Iggy.

Ah! Life size!
Theo: 3 feet tall.
Lanny's 'stache: 20-foot wingspan.
