I don’t really think it’s so much that he isn’t gelling with Sutter’s systems, I think he’s still unhappy to not be in Florida.
Just a brutal position to be in. I don’t know if he will ever really find success in Calgary, and he’s hamstrung the franchise for the next decade basically. If he’s traded you’re eating half of his salary, and getting nothing much in return.
I don’t blame Treliving here, he HAD to sign him, but geez Huberdough.. what the ####?

It could end up being the worst contract in NHL history if he doesn't turn it around. At least the worst since 8 year term limits came in.

I can't see coaching being the issue when the GAF factor is not existent with Huberdeau. If he at least tried as hard as guys like Kadri, Mangiapane, Dube, Coleman, Backlund, Lindholm... well, pretty much everyone, he would be getting points. I have no doubt of that.
Honestly, trading him for pennies on the dollar would be amazing right now. I would trade him for literally nothing but the cap space if possible.
|
Yup. When my play the blue jackets, JG was constantly creating opportunities again us, and he has way less support then Huberdeau does here.
Huberdeau needs to produce for us regardless. That's why he was brought in.

It's everything. You have Huberdeau who's always going to pass, and you have Kadri who's always going to shoot. Makes it pretty easy to defend. No one is ever driving the net, or getting shots off their sticks quickly.
Their winger has been Pelletier or Lucic. Pelletier has looked good, but he's going to take time to adjust.
The system of constantly taking low risk shots isn't working, we don't have the players to get the garbage goals.

Let him rebound, then sell to Montreal with 30% retention
If this is how this guy is going to award a team throwing 85 million at him, he can buzz off

I haven't seen any glimpses of anything special from the player since the first few games of the season. He's completely lost.

I have a hard time with the incompatibility angle. I want a player that can produce regardless of who the coach is. Especially at that salary.

Honestly, I think he rebounds next year. You aren't going to get full value for him in the trade market so might as well wait it out.

His shot % is the same this year as pretty much most of his career but I guess he was always more of an assists guy.
He's going to finish the year around 60 points which is half of last year but not that big a difference from his at-a-glance historicals. Florida just sold high and we bought hook, line, & sinker.
We have a perfect storm of the wrong system, the wrong coach, and the wrong contract.

players that phone it in after a payday are the worst
still have to earn the money that teams invest in you. they're paying you for the quality of work that they expect after the fact

No thanks. Coach Q and the entire Blackhawks organization can screw off - at least everyone who was involved.

He had 4 straight years over PPG...more than the guys who left
He isn't a 60 point player that had one good season

Except we paid a guy who gave a discount to Florida so they could be competitive and they turned around and burned him so he doesn’t have the care factor anymore.
His discount gave them the likes of Yandle, Luongo, Bob ect…
He’s now raising his middle finger to the owners just the wrong ones.
I bet the good guy in huberdeau regrets signing that deal here but then he remembers 84 million dollars and says #### you NHL owners gotcha

I could live with mediocre stats if he was making stuff happen and just unlucky, but I'm not sure he is. I actually think in Florida he might have been a product of linemates who made stuff happen (Barkov on special teams, Bennett 5v5).

That's not true though.
In the 6 seasons prior to this one he had 441 points in 399 games.
That is a 90 point per season pace.
This year he's on a 55 points pace.
Calgary bought no higher on Huberdeau than Columbus did on Gaudreau, or Florida did on Tkachuk.
That's what makes it even more frustrating though. This isn't some guy that was a 1 year wonder. His career has been more prolific than Gaudreau, he's 12th in the NHL in scoring in the 6 years before coming to Calgary.
He hasn't looked comfortable or confident at all in his time in Calgary (outside of maybe opening night)

He was prolific long before Bennett was his linemate at 5v5.

Step 1: lock him in a room with all kinds of hockey equipment
Step 2: Hope he has a mild allergic reaction to something
Step 3: Put him on LTIR for the rest of his career. He continues to get paid without trying (current state) and Flames benefit too.

Than reunite with coach Brunette? He can have his own golf cart
