Also it's sacrilegious to abuse the eyes emoji like that.

There are Oil fans who honest to God think the rules should be bent to help the Oilers win because they have McDavid.

It's sacrilege that McDavid isn't playing for the Cup every single year.

Gary should coerce GMs into dumb trades with the Oilers (like McLeod & Campbell for Nylander), the Oilers cap should be 40% higher than everyone else, and a penalty should be called every single time McDavid is on the ice.

The Oilers should just be given an automatic spot in the Stanley Cup like they do with the Memorial Cup host city.

That's how you extend the playoffs. The winner of the West-East doesn't win the cup, they move on to play the Oilers in the final.

One reason to cheer for Florida is knowing it will kill Draisaitl to watch Ekblad, Reinhart, and Bennett all raise the Cup.

If Vegas wins, we can take comfort in the fact that watching Eichel lift the Cup will make McDavid cry.

I hadn't thought about this but:
  • 2010, 2nd overall - Seguin, Stanley Cup champion (2011 Boston)
  • 2011, 2nd overall - Landeskog, Stanley Cup champion (2022 Colorado)
  • 2012, 2nd overall - Murray, Stanley Cup champion (2022 Colorado)

So, unless Dallas pulls off the major upset, it will mean the Oilers had 5 top-3 picks in 6 years to start the 2010s, and 4 of the players chosen with the pick immediately after the Oilers will be Stanley Cup champions after this season (and if Dallas does win it, it will be a second Cup for Seguin).

We'll need a live Draisaitl cam for if the Panthers win

And a live McDavid cam for if Vegas wins.

Flames fans get to enjoy their tears and HNIC can keep their two favourite guys relevant. It's a win-win!

Their agony is just delicious. I don't think I could get enough, at least until they're no longer Oilers.

This personifies the lack of hockey knowledge that is standard with the Oilers fan base. Far and away the most uneducated, uninformed and oblivious fan base not just in the NHL but in all of professional sport.

Another example of the result of a population constantly fed propaganda.

Honestly, a smart coach would go to McDavid and point to MT and say to him, this is what heart and desire and two way hockey can do. McDavid I don't think was stunningly great in the playoffs this year, especially on 5v5. He was a power play specialist who was just ok in the playoffs.

If I was McDavid I would point out that in the last two playoffs he seriously ran out of gas because they overplayed him in the regular season.

Right now the best player in the playoffs is MT and its not close. It hurts as a sorta flames fan, but it is what it is.

On an added note, next year is the window, that's it. If it doesn't go well, and I don't think they can make the significant structural changes that they need to in goaltending and defense and forward quality, without dumping a monster salary, they have to make decisions on the apocalypse.

I don't care what anyone says BTW, Bouchard for all of his gaudy power play points was a tire fire 5v5 and is going to need to be sheltered. Nurse is a overpayed massively pile of poop. They don't have the goaltending, we saw that when the stakes were high and Skinner fell apart behind weak 5v5 play.

Even their coach the wonder boy Puglsey Adams was badly outcoached in the playoffs, and he's too arrogant and stupid to change from the play the wonder twins 50% of the time and not install a playable defensive system.

The Flames are a trainwreck they are. But McDavid and Draisaitl disguise how truly bad that Oilers team is build wise.

Incorrect, the Oilers window was this past season. Bouchard is going to get paid and eat all their cap space. They will be required to make Broberg a full time defenseman and ship out likely Kulak, their defense will be worse this coming year than it was this past year.

They have almost zero cap space to sign anyone over $1MM to fill out the bottom 6. They are going to have to get rid of Yamamoto and/or Ceci but will have to attach significant assets to them to do so (Ceci likely requires a 2nd round pick to take him and Yamamoto will require a 3rd). They are going to rely on Nothing-Happens and Hyman to again have career years which is unlikely to happen. They are banking on a Campbell bounce back with a worse defense core.

Likely to be much worse for the Oilers this year.

Also depends how much they are allowed to get away with. They held a cap circumvention festival last summer, and waved it in the league's face with zero consequence.

Yeah, there will be a lot of cap gymnastics with that roster. Having to re-sign Bouchard and fill 4 forwards to spots to fill the roster with 6M will not be an easy feat. I am guessing a few prospects will be added just because they are on cheap ELC.

They are going to have to move out significant salary. Atleast two of Foegele, Ceci, Kulak and Yammamoto will need to be moved without taking back salary. GM's need to hold Holland accountable here and really play hard ball with him.

Some team really should offersheet Mcleod in the 2.75M-3M range to further complicate things. He's a good young player.

I agree, he is a decent young player
In a tough spot most of the time
Someone should get him out of there before he is beyond repair

Oilers trade a 2023 5th round pick for a prospect they could’ve signed for free if they waited

He goes back into the draft if he doesn't sign. So a team will have to use a draft pick to sign him, or hope he goes undrafted.

Really hope he says screw it and decides to roll the dice in the draft again, then it's a hilarious L for the Oilers b

Was perusing some of their threads on SweatpantBoards, and it's a delight to see how blissfully unaware they are of their cap problems.

Like glass houses and all, I can admit Connie has a real cap situation to sort out for this season as well as the upcoming one, but they must be high up the QE2. They are talking about all the pieces they will add and yet still having a couple million in cap space to accrue so they can get a superstar at the deadline. They talk about how they can sell Cici and Yamamoto for upgrades like their value is high, possibly with trade partners eating cap to get prime oiler studs like those two or Foegle. Trade Campell for Hellebuyck because Helly is going to demand a trade to the oilers and the Jets would prefer having the goalie position sorted out for a few years. Literally no talk about how they have just enough cap space to run back the same roster if all the free agents sign for around league minimum, nor what Bouchard will cost, just constant comments about all the upgrades they will get.

I get we can get down on our team here, but that's way better than thinking every team in the league will trade you their core pieces or prospects for the parts of the roster you don't want and spent the entirety of every other thread trashing.
