You kinda gave him away though I don’t recall you putting him on the block
And covered a part of his salary
Unsolicited two cents is you could have done a lot better if you had told the league you were trading him with a portion of his cap
Free agency interest isn’t a good way to assess interest in a player because everyone has limited cap to offer and therefore are somewhat guessing at who will get offers. And since you covered most of his salary that would open up demand considerably

We have acquired defenceman Alexander Edler ($2.5m retained) and forward Anders Bjork from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for forwards Tyson Jost and Jayden Grubbe, as well as a 2023 fourth-round pick.

To LA Kings : Max Pacioretty
To NYR : Max Domi, Jake Gardiner and 2024 4th and 5th
LA lost out on every UFA forward they took a shot at, except for a couple of fourth liners. Necessity forced us to delve into the roster and make a trade for a top six player. Patches is 238 years old and can't play defense, so he will have to be slotted delicately.
The Rangers pick up valuable contracts for next year in Domi, the prospective 1C in Chicago, and Gardiner playing top 4C in Carolina for a paltry 550K cap. A couple of picks to make the wait sufferable.
LA is tired of being an also-ran, and although not being able to ice a top line to match the best in the league, will attempt to make life difficult in the Western Conference with a balanced attack throughout the lineup. Another move or two could be on the way.

Not gonna lie. I didn't even know Jake was still in the NHL. And a Top 4 on the Canes!?! How's that possible?! I always thought the Canes were stacked with Dmen.

He spent a year being injured, and now that I'm looking at the Burns acquisition, he might be #5 with PP time. He's still the fourth highest paid D on the team! Carolina is nuts.

with me taking a bit of a rebuilding approach, Patches (who's strictly a one year rental after his injury) wasn't a perfect fit. Had him on the block for many weeks, but close to no interest. This deal turns a one-year rental into two players on cheap three year deals, and I think there's quite a bit of rebound potential, especially Domi. Someone has to put up points in Chicago, and I think he could do well there. Hopefully Gardiner stays healthy and becomes a reliable NHLer again.
thanks to Harry Lime for the talks!

I like when teams explain their thinking behind the trades.
Also I had no idea Burns was with the Canes now so I need to start paying more attention to real NHL and not CPHL.

Glad this deal occurred. Thanks to all the other GMs that I spammed with offers but this was a deal that worked best for me.

Red Wings like Holl a lot but this deal allows us to pick up a 7th Dman that we can leave on the NHL roster full-time. With Gudbranson we gain a checker/fighter but miss out on the passing ability Holl provided.
