Nice "something now, something later" deal for SJ. Love those. Those are my favorite.

TO DUCKS
Eichel (74)
2nd (STL) 23'
3rd (MIN) 23'
TO FLAMES
Hischier (74)
B. Othmann
2nd (NYR) 24'
The Ducks like Hischier, but we have Ek and Cirelli who are already strong defensive centres. We needed a guy with upside. Eichel is that guy. I'm hoping he continues to rehab and has a bounce-back year...this is a bit of a gamble but one I think worth taking.
I added Othmann who is arguably the Rangers top prospect and lit it up in the OHL this year.
Flames get a strong two-way centre to play behind Matthews and MacKinnon, they didn't need an Eichel as well.
The rest of the picks involved are all to balance out the trade value.
Thanks Ravi for the deal, always fun.

Nice talks to distract from the gaudreau thread. Grant likes Othmann so he is going to be amazing. Hischier is exactly what we need as a defensive minded C who can still contribute offensively. I feel like every cup champ has one of those (Toews, kopitar, Bergeron, Barkov).

True. But no cup champs have a Matthews :-)

Panthers have sent JVR and Spacek to Nashville for Nemeth.
Pick up a solid dman for an expensive 3rd line winger and free up some cap which is much needed

The Islanders have traded forward Tyce Thompson to the Predators in exchange for defenceman Troy Stecher.
We expect Stecher to have a really nice year on Arizona's top pairing, hopefully playing more than 20 minutes per game and perhaps scoring 25-30 points. Always been a fan of his.
He's signed through 2024 at $0.75 in the CPHL, so if all goes well we hope he gets a nice rating in 2023–24.

The Islanders have traded goaltender Mike Smith to the Panthers in exchange for forward Vasily Ponomarev.
I just don't like having guys on my roster who aren't playing anymore. Smith is rated very well but I figured I would rather have a future piece on my team.
Ponomarev is a recent second-round pick who showed pretty well in a big role on a deep Chicago Wolves team at the end of the AHL season. I believe I originally drafted him to Florida, as well. Glad to have him on my side now.

Pitt 1 2023
This comes down to our opinion of the Pittsburgh GM. I believe he will make that squad a playoff team. Grant on the other hand...
Happy to add Wallstedt who is one of the best goalie prospects we have seen in a long time. Looking forward to flipping him to Curtis at double the price!

With The Terk in net now and Askarov also in our prospect base, we should be set in goal for a long time. And the goalie market is always really hard. So cashing in that prospect capital for another 2023 draft pick seemed OK. I think the 2023 draft is REALLY good both in terms of the top end but the depth through the 1st round.

That's the type of deal I was looking for. The two guys were drafted 2 slots apart so the value is about equal.
