Default Summer 2015 Prospect Ranking - Round 3

It's time.

Calgarypuck's 3rd annual Prospect Ranking Poll!

Going with the 25 and under with 65 or less games played at the NHL level which actually works pretty closely with my own rule of thumb of "anyone not too old that hasn't been penciled in".

Therefore Granlund, Ortio and Ferland are still prospects, with Jooris 5 games light of the 65 game limit.

Monahan and Gaudreau are young but clearly established and no longer prospects. Bennett may be penciled in but he's only played 12 NHL games and is a prospect.

Previous Two Editions
2014 - http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...highlight=poll
2013 - http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...ospect+Ranking

Rankings:

1. Sam Bennett - 96% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=147961)
2. Emile Poirier - 38% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=147973)

Ortio over Ferland. More likely to reach starting goalie / top 6.

With Goalies splitting the vote players will keep Stelmaching up the middle and win the poll.

I went Gillies over Ortio and Ferland

So hard to say for goaltenders, but I'm going to give Gillies the nod given age, pedigree and what he's accomplished at a young age. Could easily see any of the three goaltenders (or none of them) as Calgary's number one some day

Reading the other thread, Itse is making a pretty good argument for Ortio. That's where my vote's going.

Ferland ( or Ferdaddy as he is known in the Bieksa household) as long has he keeps his off ice struggles in the past , I think he's gonna play a big role in the Flames future success. He strikes me as a guy who may be a little inconsistent in the regular season but when all the chips are on the table he will come up big.

Oreo falling behind. This will look interesting next year. He'll be a #1 next year by years end.

Not sure I like Ferland and Granlund being in this list, they are pretty close to graduated at this point.

Still voting for Kylington, he's a better prospect than all but Bennett.
Too bad I won't get to vote for any of the rest until the mob comes round.
I would vote the rest as:
1. Bennett
2. Kylington
3. Gillies
4. Ortio
5. Poirier
6. Hickey
7. Ferland
8. Granlund
9. Andersson

not sure I agree. I think they find room for Ferland (26 games), but Granlund with the current glut up front?

either way they make the cut on age and games played.

So if i am reading this right , 38% of the posters in this poll were wrong with their 2nd round prediction. I'm just kidding.

Picked Gillies last round, so i will stick with him.

I had the honor of never casting a vote for Baertschi last season, but I think I voted Gillies four straight times.

Ferland doesn't project to be a top-line forward necessarily, but he could become a lot like Milan Lucic. He could be an enforcer who puts up 40-50+ points in a season. He's already shown that he can do this in a playoff series.

Gilles may project as a future #1 all-star but there's too much uncertainty today.

Went with Ferland.

Ferland all the way. Takes a special player to do this...

Props to AC.

ugh... made a mistake in voting... i should've have picked Ortio, not Ferland...

as for the poll, is it based on potential upside or NHL ready/career?

because Kylington probably has the biggest upside...but he might not play a game in the NHL, whereas an Ortio may be a career backup, but he should be on an NHL for a long time?

just curious how others are framing "best prospect"

It's based on whatever criteria you choose.

For me highest potential.

Round 1 I voted Bennett, obviously
Round 2 I voted Poirier, he has 1st line potential. Size, skill speed, drive. Total Package
Round 3 I voted Oreo, starting goalie
