If Lindy goes I'd go with:

Huberdeau-Backlund-Coronato
Mangiapane-Kadri-Toffoli
Pelletier-Dube-Coleman
Zary-Ruzicka-Duehr

Which looks crappy to me.

I want to try Coronato at center. I kinda want to try this if Phillips re-signs:

Huberdeau-Coronato-Toffoli
Mangiapane-Kadri-Dube
Pelletier-Backlund-Phillips
Coleman-Ruzicka-Duehr

I just don't think throwing a rookie on the top line with Huberdeau leads to success, especially when he's not too experienced at the position.

Coleman isn't a bottom line player. I'd put Pelts there. He's a good skater and has a lot of effort, but I don't think his offence will ever get there.

Yeah, I kinda hesitate putting Coronato at 1st line C. But I don't think Backlund is a first line C anymore, and I like Backlund. And if Coleman can work well with the 2 kids, we'll have a dangerous 4th line. Sigh, by the looks of it, if we lose Lindholm, we're screwed.

You just never know those are 8 drafted players on the roster, teams that win usually win with home grown talent not a team assembled from trades and free agency.

Some of those guys could breakout.

I don't think anyone expected Jason Robertson to be a 100 point player.

Huberdeau and Toffoli don’t work unless they have a center that can carry the puck.

Yeah but that lineup has 5 million in cap space plus whatever future potential Lindholm returns in a trade. Take out Backlund and Taffoli and it's weaker yet by year end. But 2-3 years down the road you probably are better off for having endured the pain.

I know you've kind of soured on Rusicka (and maybe legitimately, so) but I'm hoping the new coach will be able to work with Ruzicka to get the most out of him game in and game out.

I hope he figures it out.

Just so inconsistent.

I love seeing fans slotting Matt on the wing when he’s a highly effective C! Did not struggle at WHC.

I fully anticipate he will be a C Primarily that can plan the wing.

I doubt Coronato starts the season in Calgary. Players of his pedigree typically spend at least half a season in the AHL. Especially if they’re going to be playing centre.

a. He's always been listed as a wing.
b. I anticipated he'd be used like Monahan and Lindholm were - sharing draws and centre responsibilities with him gradually assuming more and more duties. The concern is a rookie C playing top 6 might be detrimental, especially when that hasn't been his primary position in college.

I hope the 3rd line for the Flames in 2023-24 is what was the top line for the Wranglers last season.

Pelletier - Zary - Phillips

I see that line getting walked all over in the NHL next year if that is your 3rd line.

Maybe, or maybe they are up to the challenge and they thrive off the familiarity of playing with each other. I just think they are ready to make the jump and they aren't 4th liners. They can be sheltered on the 3rd line.

Zary is far away from making the NHL jump. He looked horrendous some nights for the Wranglers this past season.

First and foremost only one of those players has played more than 3 games in the NHL.

Second of all, for a line that will be getting third line minutes, that is a very small line and I am not convinced Phillips style of play will translate to the NHL.

Just my opinion, if the Flames are looking to ice the best team possible that is not your third line.

Coronato was Harvards #1 center for most of this season if I'm not mistaken. I was under the impression that he only played around 10 games on the right side this year. He was the defensively responsible player on his line who could also score...much like what we've come to expect from Lindholm.
