No, but they are in a very good position. We all need to root on Chile to beat Italy on Friday and if that happens, that Canada and Chile will be the two teams advancing from group A.

Wow, Vasek is going to play doubles with Alexis in this doubles match versus Sweden.
Edit: Pops and Alexis take the opening set in a tie-break (11-9 was the tie-breaker score).

Based on the results thus far today, Canada needs just one match win versus Chile on Saturday to punch their ticket to Malaga in November. Sweden has been eliminated from Group A.

Yes it certainly would help as then nobody could match Canada's total of six match wins (the most Italy and Chile would accumulate would be five). Italy are going with the big guns (Musetti and Sonego) in the doubles.
Edit: Correction - if Chile win the doubles, then they would have four match wins and 2 match losses and could usurp Canada if they swept the Canadians on Saturday. However, Italy's highest match win total would be five match wins if they swept Sweden and the highest place they could finish in the group would be second.

Well, Italy sweeps Chile which means that Chile needs to sweep Canada and Italy needs to sweep Sweden in order to have a 3-way tie at the top of Group A as far as points and match wins are concerned.
Bottom line, Canada is still in a very good position to advance to the Davis Cup finals in November in Malaga. One match win against Chile on Saturday is all that is needed.
