Cooley going back to Minnesota is very bad news for the coyotes. Brutal.

No thanks. You can get a younger version of him without all the drama in Brunette and he would come cheaper to boot.

I think there’s a reason that the Panthers pulled the plug on Brunette, going with a more experienced coach. Brunette is nowhere near the calibre of Coach Q IMO.

Are you praying that he is the head coach, or would you be hoping more for an advisory role similar to that of Bob Murray?

HC for sure. Comes with baggage, but he’s one of the top-3 coaches in the league.

Owen Power did the same thing with the Sabres but ultimately signed with them . I guess you could say that the Sabres are #2 right now (but the Sabres are moving in the right direction) in terms of shambolic NHL Franchises but the gap between them and the Coyotes at #1 is quite massive with the Yotes continuing to take massive Ls.

Power did not do the same thing. He was drafted and went back to school and signed. Cooley was drafted went back to school and then is going back to school again for another year.

Alright Arizona, throw Cooley into the Keller deal and maybe we'll send out first round pick

Wouldn't be surprised to see Cooley surpass Gaudreau's 2 points per game this year.

Oh I didn't realize this was gonna be Cooley's D+2. That is alarming. Hopefully, the Coyotes situation becomes a lot more solid in a year and he decides to sign or they can get a good return on him for a trade.

It is not just bad. It is a disaster for them if he doesn't return. That is a future star that they need to build around.
Just embarrassing stuff by that franchise. Owners should demand action. NHLPA should make this part of CBA negotiations. And the media should be ridiculing the league for this situation.
To say they are going to give it the old college try for another year is an embarrassment.

If we were close to competing I would agree but with how far off we are I am not sure it is worth it to bring in Q and the controversy it would bring so we can finish 6th and lose in the first round in 6 games.
The upside with the roster we have doesn't make sense for us to bring on the controversy, especially after we just had Peters here.
The team that it does make sense for is the scum up north. They have already shown they have no morals with the Kane signing and they are desperate to win now with McDavid so worth taking the risk.

He’ll end up in Chicago playing with Bedard. 3 more Cups. Then they will win the lottery again in 15 years drafting Connor Kane or whomever. Shampoo, Rinse, Repeat.

We are close to competing, we just missed the playoffs with 93 points. We have a winger who scored 115 points last year, and is sure to rebound next year. I don’t think we can afford Quenneville anyway, but now is the perfect time to hire a winning coach. We’ve got some long ass contracts that aren’t going anywhere, and coach Q is good with young players.

Someone who gets 600 goals and 1300 points, obviously.

Keller is a great asset for a contending team that can afford to part with draft capital and prospects. It's a moot argument, because he's worth a 1st ++, not just a first, and it's the last thing the Flames can afford at this juncture.

I agree that Keller might not be the guy for this team right now given the cost to acquire him but he is certainly worth a look if there is a way to pull it off.
But I think the argument that the Flames should never trade a first round pick is shortsighted (acknowledging you didn’t say this but it was stated earlier). Young talent is young talent. Doesn’t matter how you acquire it. Whether it’s a first round pick, seventh round pick, college/European FA, or trade, doesn’t matter. I don’t think hoarding draft picks is a sure fire road to success and I don’t think Edwards sees it that way as well.

He's also willing to cover up sexual assault of a player under him in the pursuit of winning. Do you really want that guy to be your coach?
