CBS Sports: Top 10 NHL Wingers (you know who is #1)
Quote:
1. Matthew Tkachuk | LW | Florida Panthers
After slotting Matthew Tkachuk at No. 1 in these rankings last season, I was worried I was too bullish on him after a great 2021-22 season. Well, Tkachuk rewarded my faith, and he cemented himself as the top winger in the NHL with an impeccable 2022-23 campaign.
In his first season with the Panthers, Tkachuk set new career highs with 69 assists and 109 points. Those numbers are impressive enough on the surface, but a deeper dive shows exactly how much better Florida was with Tkachuk on the ice last year. With Tkachuk in the game at five-on-five, the Panthers had a plus-39 goal differential, per Natural Stat Trick. With Tkachuk on the bench, that goal differential plummeted to minus-7.
Tkachuk only enhanced his stardom with an awe-inspiring postseason performance. He tallied 24 points in 20 games, and he came up clutch with four game-winning goals, despite battling through a broken sternum. I'd say that effort is more than worthy of the No. 1 spot again this year.

No RNH on this list, thankfully.

Those rankings are nonsense. Kucherov, Kaprisov and Rantanen should be ranked higher. Stutzle at 10? Laughable.

It's a good thing you put all those reasons in explaining why Kucherov, Kaprisov and Rantanen should be ranked higher (and why the players they'd be replacing should be ranked lower). Also, am I ever glad you clarified that Stutzle shouldn't be at 10... now I just need to figure out if that means he should be higher than 10 or lower than 10... or just literally any other number except for the number 10.

Stutzle shouldn't be at 10 because he's not a winger.

As much as I love Chucky I still think Paster is the best winger

Tkachuk has averaged 77 points per 82 games. Robertson has averaged over 91 points per 82 games. Robertson is also larger and younger and he scores more goals.
Kucherov is the highest at 93 points per 82 games.
Really, they're both way higher than Tkachuk in terms of career production. I get Tkachuk is a powerforward, but he hasn't really accomplished anything that Kucherov or Robertson haven't.

Why would you look at career averages to determine who is the best player today?

It's Chucky or Pasta for me as the top guy. Chucky brings an element Pasta doesn't though, so I'd go with Chucky if I could have either guy.

If I’m looking for a cup, it’s still Kucherov or Rantanen for me.

Kucherov at 7 is criminal. Tkachuk has had 2 dominant seasons under his belt, on two different clubs no less, which makes it very impressive. However, I don't think he warrants the #1 spot. To me, that still belongs to Kucherov. Best playmaker in the league and always shows up in the playoffs. Stutzle listed here also makes this list laughable.
Imo, here's my list of top 10 wingers:
1. Kucherov
2. Pastrnak
3. Tkachuk
4. Robertson
5. Rantanen
6. Marner
7. Kaprizov
8. Panarin
9. Ovechkin
10. Gaudreau
HMs: Stone, Huberdeau, Marchand, Nylander, Guentzel

Regardless, Tkachuk produces like the top guys on the list, can play physical, and is defensively solid. That’s why he should be considered the best today.

Pasternak had 61 goals last year. 61!!!
Come on.

That's a snarky response. Don't like a bland post? Ignore it and move along. Think a post was in bad taste? Sure, say something then, or report it if it breaks the forum rules and move along. I don't understand why we need to be jerks.

For sure, but he played with Marchand and Bergeron all season. Chucky played with Bennett and a rotating carousel of LWs.

True, but Marchand and Bergeron only put up 67 and 59 points.
Draisitle playing almost all the time with McDavid, and Pasternak put up almost ten more goals than him.
If Pasternak was a center, he would be compared to Matthews as his equal.
To me that is step above the intangibles that Tkachuk brings. Goal scoring is the hardest thing to do in this league and Pasternak is a natural.

If I ignore the age difference for their remaining contract length, and I can only have either player for one year next year, I take Pasternak over Chucky, and this is coming from a huge Chucky fan.

Based on last season alone then Tkachuk and Pastrnak are 1A and 1B and it's probably tough to really separate them. Tkachuk might get the nod because of the playoffs.
Over the last 2-3 seasons then Tkachuk is still top 5 but I think you then have an argument of Pastrnak, Kucherov, Tkachuk, Robertson, Rantanen, and Marner.
Either way he's a top 5 winger.

If we want a higher standard of conversation, then we need to call out and even ridicule responses that do nothing to contribute to that conversation.
