Rick Nattress is so underrated, but that trade for the Cup run with him being part of the Flames is quite instrumental.

Phil Housely - Meh - didn't like his skinny shoulders and how overpaid he was. He was pretty much in the wrong place at the wrong time with the Flames. I would have picked Sarich as a close second to Nattress.

See, you're all going on who was the best player... I'm going by best nickname.

Boughner it is.

Pretty much my thinking too.

The video is great because Bob Johnson at the table won't stop fidgeting with a tin ash tray.

But they way Fletcher announce it was torture.

"going to the Blues winger Gino Cavalini, defenseman Charlie Bourgeois, and winger Eddy Beers. Coming to Calgary defenseman Rik Wilson, defenseman Terry Johnson ... "

At this point I'm thinking we got trashed

Drop the mic!
I believe that was the game that ended the 11 game winless streak too. The trade was worked out for quite some time, but Fletcher didn't want to pull the trigger until the Flames won a game.

I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure the streak started and ended against Vancouver...

Either way, I remember the trade announcement too - it was classic!

You're right. I must be remembering another trade.

I voted for Wideman for sentimental reasons.

Mullen is an easy pick for #7. Not sure about #8... that one seems like a toss up. Bure or Riser?

Riser
He was a helluva competitor and player
His legacy here is harmed because of his gm stint which is too bad

Housley. Even as maddening as he could be at times.

Ken Houston was a beaut, though. Ditto Mr. Robert Boughner.

Correction: Mike Vernon ended the 11-game winless streak 4-3 in OT vs Vancouver, after he had beaten the Russians a couple nights before as a “why not” call up decision.

If memory serves, he never lost a start for the rest of that season before finally wrestling the #1 spot away from Lemelin in the first round of the playoffs.

Edit: Whoops. He beat the Russians 4-3 and Vancouver was 5-4 in OT.

Listening to that game against Vancouver as a 12 year old kid, and then jumping up and down on my bed after they won in OT, is one of the happiest Flames memories of my entire life.
