Calgary Public Libraries in shopping malls. Chinook Centre and Westbrook Mall both had public libraries.

Those early walkmans were bricks. My first one was made by some company called Electrohome and if it had been any bigger I would have had to carry it in a backpack. Consumer's was awesome. I remember saving up money from raking leaves to go there and buy the Star Wars AT-AT walker. I think it was something like 40 bucks and my mom couldn't believe how expensive it was. I can't remember the last time my 8 year old asked for anything that cost less than 40 bucks.

That nice Mr. Baines from the Calgary Zoo, who used to tour all the elementary schools with critters 'n' fossils.

- Buying POGS at the Red Rooster just off of Bow Trail as you head up the hill to Strathcona/Coach Hill.
- Elementary school field trips to Butterfield Acres farm when it was well outside the city. Now I believe it's somewhere between Rocky Ridge and 12 Mile Coulee Rd.
- As an off shoot, when Invermere BC was still a quiet weekend getaway location where you could find calm water on the lake at 2:00pm on a weekend. Ever since the Calgary economic boom spilled over in the form of numerous gargantuan "cottages" and overcrowding the place hasn't been the same.

i remember when ranchlands had dirt roads and it didn't reach nose hill drive...which was the edge of town.
nose hill drive going straight into bowness.
the esso station at the corner of highway 1 and stoney trail.
kelly's rock clock; 99 cent albums with a different one every hour. i seriously bought tons and tons of records.
lake midnapore feeling like you were halfway to high river.
the old shaganappi golf course...hole 10 feeling like you were about to drive a golf ball into downtown.
"giant friday things" at the U of C - i saw so many great bands for cheap. i remember rational youth and men without hats; beer by the jug for cheap.
lonesome charlie - a magnum of what seemed like fizzy koolaid but with an effect.
sunset drive in.
electric avenue.
the little driving range that used to be right under what is now rocky ridge.
john laurie being an awesomely fast (and only way) to go from nw to ne.
working in falconridge and castleridge when they were brand new; the edge of the city on the north east side.
when we moved from ontario...i had never seen traffic lights sideways.
k-way jackets.
playing indoor soccer at the bubble that was at the end of memorial drive...guessing about 52nd street...and it seemed like mud all around.
calgary boomers.
a canada soccer game at mcmahon stadium where they had to have players hold the ball on the kickoff spot so it wouldn't blow away...and the snow and the rain that night.
alberta's 75th birthday celebration at stampede park.
working at woolco.
drinking high test (carling o'keefe extra old stock - 6% for the price of 5%!)
and of course..."makes no difference where i go...you're the best hometown i know...hello calgary, hello calgary...channels 2 and 7 love you".
calgary really was a different place; that song and the images have really stuck with me over the years...every time i have left calgary i always find a way back...eventually.
this is a great thread. thank you for the memories.

Going to Bings (around the corner from Elbow/Southland K-mart) to load up on sugar based energy and then hanging out at the Southland drive parking lot entrance into K-mart for bmx jumping goodness.

As a kid there was a science show on TV out of Calgary. For the love of me I cannot think of the name.
