I just got back from having lunch at the Dandy Brewery on 11th Street SE. You all need to go there. Trust me - GO! It was less of a pub meal and more of a food adventure!

Yes, to add to this, I'm not getting the specific right but in general their chef used to work for 5-star restaurants or so my in Montreal, Vancouver, Eric but wanted to run his own restaurant. Ended up at dandy. Great spot, with fantasy food and great beer.

The chef/owners of Vero Bistro have opened a new place on Edmonton Trail, called Queen's Breakfast and Cocktails. It's mainly a brunch place but also open on weekend evenings. I haven't tried it yet, but Vero is one of my favourite restaurants in Calgary, so will definitely check it out.

It is fantastic! The Hong Kong style French toast is particularly on point! It’s pretty rich, so might be best as a sharing dish... if you’re willing to share...

Klein and Harris on Stephen ave is BOMB. Super affordable too. everything is under $30 and portions are large. The Breast is delicious and their burger is the best one I've had in a long time.

I don't know what Hong Kong style French toast is, but it sounds delicious.

Curious too, I found this description of HK French Toast:

Quote:
If you already like regular French toast served in your local diner you’ll probably go nuts on this Hong Kong Style French toast. The Hong Kong style French toast is like French toast on steroids. It’s got two thick slices of soft milk bread covered in egg batter and perfectly fried to crispy golden brown and then served with butter and condensed milk/syrup. Oh I forgot to mention, there is also a generous amount of peanut butter sandwiched in between the bread to make this dish extra decadent.
Don't look at the caloric content.

I made a reso for April. The price was insane, right in line with many top American restaurants. Max out at $800/couple wow. Seems like a Momofuku Ko style ambiance. Anyways, That is a very high bar to set for Calgary.

I am totally ready for disappointment, but want to try.

Honestly the very best paces you can eat and experience are much cheaper. Bar Von Der Fels, Nights and Weekends both are my top favs in Calgary if you sit at the bar. Chat with the chefs and connect. That is what food is about to me.

That said I am not above being pretentious once and while hah.

I like the concept but there’s no way I’m spending that much unless the place has at least one Michelin star.

Anyone tried Nupo yet?

https://www.exploretock.com/nupo/

They have aged sushi there, which I'm keen to try. I had aged sushi when I was in Japan last week, and it was outstanding!

Just read on Reddit that Shikiji Ramen (on Center) is closing "due to a flood". Sorry Calgary, there will be no more Chili Goma for you.

Seems to be an awful lot of floods taking out restaurants....

While I understand where you're coming from I don't think it's quite fair to discount a restaurant because it doesn't have a star. There's actually no possibility of a Canadian restaurant getting a single Michelin star as we do not currently publish the Michelin guide.

I meant it needs to get more public recognition before I'd be willing to spend that kind of money on a meal. I've heard the hype about its price and exclusivity but nothing about the food.

I didn't know Canadian restaurants weren't eligible for Michelin stars. I wonder if any Calgary restaurants would be worthy.

I'm sorry. You don't have someone to adjust yours for you? How quaint.
