On ramps onto avenues generate intersections, which is not what I want. I want merge lanes.
Having two one lane two way roads merging to one 4 lane avenue also generates an intersection.
I'm having a hard time figuring out how to build any type of interchange not involving roundabouts that doesn't get hampered by these extra intersections.

- Download a bunch of pre-built interchanges from the workshop on steam. They will save you a lot of time and generally look better than anything I could create.
- Instead of using avenues, try using highways and download the "highway to 6 lane avenue" from the workshop. Sometimes I connect my highway to a 2 lane one-way to the avenue. Doesn't look great, but works well. As you said, an on-ramp connected to an avenue creates an intersection and that's to be avoided.

My face is a bum!

No bumps for the 1.1 release? Tunnels are awesome... mostly. In a way they make me sad that I can cheat and hide my messes of interchanges underground, but on the other hand they let me build a whole new level of stupidity and complexity into my road and rail systems.
I haven't tried a European city yet, as I know if I start a new one I'm going to be abandoning my current one that I'm having a lot of fun with.

I haven't really had much time but I need to get back into this game. The new additions look great and that traffic mod sounds amazing.

Anyone know if a sale is coming up for this on steam by chance?
Two rounds of playoffs kinda drained the ol entertainment budget

Just a complete guess, but the game still shows up in the top 10 on Steam, so probably not. Plus, it's only $30 to begin with. I wouldn't be surprised to see it go cheaper during the Steam Summer sale though.

Meh, I'd love to play around some more with all the mods etc, but I just have too much on my plate. If I'd start a new city I just know I'd waste way too much time on it...

The Steam summer sale allegedly starts on the 11th so I would imagine it would see something of a discount at some point.

Don't be tempted to start with everything that's out there. Start playing in the mode that only gives you new things once the city grows, and only start downloading mods once you've gotten a hold of the basics.
The basics are really quite simple. You have your residents that need jobs either in factories or in commerce, and everybody needs electricity, water and sewage, and eventually more and more services. Personally I recommend investing in a lot of public transport and avoiding multi-lane roads as much as possible.
More importantly however, a large part of the fun in the game is discovering how it works. So essentially you're not supposed to know what you're doing. Feeling overwhelmed is a feature
Just do something that seems to make sense, and then later fix it once you start understanding why you did it all wrong. The game is designed to be quite forgiving. Bumps are inevitable, but it's borderline impossible to truly ruin your city.
Don't be afraid to take loans if you have something that you really want/need "right now". At some point they probably come unnecessary, but they're a good way to speed up the starting phase.
Oh, and do fun things first and then worry about how to get them to actually work

You are so right It was fun learning and and screwing up and fixing and tweaking. I restated three times, but then realized it's not that bad to just keep going and fix stuff. The advisor role could use some refining (like in Civ V, where it's more intuitive), but otherwise it's a sweet game. I still don't comprehend why all of a sudden my water system is "dirty" and everyone starts getting sick, or why buildings get abandoned despite the population being happy.
I'm up to about 16k citizens now, and I have zero traffic problems.
I wish I was more creative though. I built all my roads in a straight grid pattern to make it easier on myself. Maybe when I continue to expand I'll get creative, or I'll make a new city altogether. Time will tell, but such a fun game to play
