A 1st and 2 2nds for Hamonic is criminal and was just a terrible trade from day 1.

Those picks ended up being:
2018 12th overall - Noah Dobson (notable picks made after Noah Dobson and in the first round would be Joel Farabee, Ty Smith, Liam Foudy)
2018 43rd overall - Rusland Iskhakov
2019 57th overall - Samuel Bolduc
Yeah, that Travis Hamonic trade was bad regardless of whether or not any of the actual chosen players turn into anything special. You simply do not pay that price for a player that slots into the depth chart in the spot Hamonic did (played as a #4, should have been a #5 or #6).
The argument at the time was that his contract was valuable, so the deal was going to be worth it - but in reality, Hamonic was mis-slotted as a #4, and there's no way around the fact that it was just a significant overpay. He was an expensive bottom-pairing defenceman being played in the top-4.
The even more baffling decision was made shortly after that when Treliving gave Michael Stone a 3 year, $3.5M AAV contract. So after that summer, we were paying Michael Stone and Travis Hamonic a combined $7,357,143 per season. That is one awful off-season.
2015 - Acquired Dougie Hamilton (very nice)
2016 - Signed Troy Brouwer (awful), acquired Brian Elliott (awful)
2017 - Acquired Travis Hamonic (awful)
2018 - Signed James Neal (horrendous), acquired Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin (very nice)
2019 - Traded James Neal for Milan Lucic (...decent)
2020 - Signed Jacob Markstrom (very nice)
