Yeah, like the Vrbata deal that we just pulled off. Vrbata makes $1.22, Scandella $2.25, and Vesey $1.50... so I sent out $3.75 and took in $1.22... so I sent s+j $2.53 million to even out the caphit.

Last question but I don't think it's an easy one:

How does player growth/development work?

For example, I have some players on my team who have no business being rated as they are. Is it at all linked to the real life player?

Similarly for prospects... for example, how would the sim determine Dahlin's overall and potential? How quickly would I expect a prospect to develop?

Is it like GM mode in EA NHL where a prospect like Shinkaruk can become a superstar?

It's all based on the NHL/AHL. Like... the Ducks have Mike Ferland for example, he's at a 64(?) right now? But after the season, he'll probably re-rate into the low 70s, because he's gonna score like 25-30 goals this season.

Shink will never be a superstar in the NHL or CPHL.

No, ratings are determined on past season. So I got josh Bailey who’s a 72 OV based on his 56 pt season last year, but this year he’s having a terrific season, so next season I expect a massive boost in his rating

So prospect ratings are determined entirely by real life performance? I can't stunt their growth by healthy scratching them for a full season?

So if you draft some one late in the 1st round, you're likely looking at 3-4+ years before they make an impact, if they make an impact?

last question promise:

does that mean that fresh draft selections are essentially useless until the following season when they have pro numbers to be based upon? Does the sim determine their ratings, or somebody else?

Yes, and the sim decides that

A note on the %s next to players that screwed me up early on, every player has a percentage but guys on one way contract's can't be sent to the AHL. I remember thinking it must work like the NHL where you could send them down and just pay them their full salary.

I'll have our tech guy remove 2017 picks

Can you re-submit this request, can't find it.

All player ratings are based on AHL/NHL performance.

We use a 3rd party ratings package that we load every off-season. This package is entirely statistical based on and heavily weighted to the most recent season. We use this so that it is entirely objective.

Players who are not AHL/NHL (e.g. junior, or european leagues) do not have ratings in these packages so if GMs want them in the sim they are given 50s across the board.

When you draft a player they are assigned to the ECHL, and can't be in the sim at all until you sign them into the AHL/NHL.
Anyone drafted in the CPHL first round (our draft happens BEFORE the NHL draft) is signed to the ECHL for 2 years. Everyone else is signed for 3 years. But you can sign them up to the pro leagues any time you want. When you do they are signed to 3 year, 2 way deal based on where they were drafted.

So with that, a player can start to have value as a playable player as early as 1 year after they are drafted (e.g. Austin Matthews, Connor McDavid, etc) but most of them indeed take a few years.

Make sense?
