If the Flames stole Drouin at #4 (and that's a BIG if), my first thought would be "why did he fall to that spot?" If they got him though, I'd #### my pants.

NHL.com had that mock draft up middle of February. The standings have changed since then and so have some of the rankings.

Haha if we drafted Shinkaruk at 4th overall I think I might just quit being a fan.

Checking out the past few drafts, it seems like the WHL has taken over as the ugly stepchild. More busts than stars in the first round.

He's a left winger. We have tons of those.
Shinkaruk is essentially Kessel-lite with slightly better two-way play.
My list is MacKinnon > Jones > Drouin > Barkov > Monahan > Lindholm > Ristolainen > Pulock ~ Shinkaruk

The Dub hasn't been producing high end talent in recent drafts. Checked out the drafts for the past 10 yrs and disppointing to see the lack of stars coming from the first round. When ppl say he's tearing up the whl, I think of Pat Falloon. I'd almost lean picking from another league if all things are equal as the development out of the whl has been lacking.
What do ppl know about Robert Hagg? HN Future Watch has him in top 10 but most other rankings have him around #20. Like another poster something tells me Max Domi will be a Flame June 30th - just a gut feel.

Just wondering, what do you guy's think of drafting Sven Andrighetto?
He's posting up Baertschi like numbers on a decent Huskies team in the QMJHL:
Year Team league GP G A P pm +/-
2011-12 Rouyn-Noranda Huskies QMJHL 62 36 38 74 50 -23
Year Team league GP G A P pm +/-
2012-13 Rouyn-Noranda Huskies QMJHL 53 31 67 98 45 25
He also had a good World Juniors posting 14 points in 13 games, you think we should take him?

I doubt they'll select a 20-year-old ... it's not uncommon that undrafted players have a great season as 20-year-olds, but they hardly ever get drafted. Pearson really was an exception last year ... normally those guys just sign an ELC with NHL teams afterwards (like Tyler Johnson, Brandon Manning and Brendan Shinnimin did ... just three WHL guys I remember).
Plus Andrighetto has already signed a 3-year contract with Swiss team Servette Geneve (including an NHL out clause).

Ahh, I see. But still - wouldn't it be better tosnag him up with a 6th or 7th round pick then to risk not getting him at all? And it is only his second season in morth america.

If the Flames go 0-4 over the next four games, which is a real possibility, we could potentially be sitting at 29th if the teams below us win just 1 game each.
I hate that it has come to this, but getting a franchise player from this draft would be phenomenal.

As of today, Sportsclubstats has the Flames drafting 10th (before ping pong balls get drafted). So Shinkaruk at the position would be fine. But yeah, top four in this draft would be just what this organisation needs.

Shinkaruk works at 10. We actually have him at 9. Our March ranking just came out yesterday:

3). C/LW Jonathan Drouin, Halifax, QMJHL, 5-11, 175
4). C Aleksander Barkov, Tappara, SM-liiga, 6-2, 205
5). D Darnell Nurse, Sault Ste. Marie, OHL, 6-4, 185
6). C Elias Lindholm, Brynas, Elitserien, 6-0, 185
7). C Sean Monahan, Ottawa, OHL, 6-2, 195
8). LW/C Valeri Nichushkin, Traktor Chelyabinsk, KHL, 6-3, 175

Why has Rasmus Ristolainen fallen so far down? If I remember correctly, at the beginning of the year he was considered the best defenseman in the draft and was in the top 6, wasn't he?

Do not want Shinkaruk at all unless it is a huge steal (17th overall or higher)

Anybody know when thehockeywriters will do up their "The Next Ones" for most of the prospects? I'd like to know who's going to be a diamond in the rough or a sleeper pick.
I see most of the big name stars like MacKinnon and a few others along with some overager stats, they would usually have stats for most of the players by now or am I jumping the gun a bit too early?

7th in our Summer rankings, 6th in our September ranking. More a matter of guys like Nurse passing him than Ristolainen falling. In fact, Ristolainen is our third-ranked defenseman and 10th overall, so it's not like he's tumbling too much.
Our defensemen are currently ranked as follows:
Jones (1)
Nurse (5)
Ristolainen (10)
Pulock (11)
Zadorov (13)
Morrissey (16)
Hagg (20)

Not much movement in RLR's new top ten: Nichushkin and Monahan (now 5 and 6 respectively) swap spots and Shinkaruk moves up a spot into 10th.
1 Seth Jones D 6-3, 208 Right Oct. 3, 1994 Portland
2 Jonathan Drouin LW 5-11, 185 Left March 27, 1995 Halifax
3 Nathan MacKinnon C 6-0, 182 Right Sept. 1, 1995 Halifax
4 Aleksander Barkov C 6-2, 207 Left Sept. 2, 1995 Tappara
5 Valeri Nichushkin RW 6-4, 202 Left March 4, 1995 Chelyabinsk
6 Sean Monahan C 6-2, 193 Left Oct. 12, 1994 Ottawa
7 Elias Lindholm C 6-0, 181 Right Dec. 2, 1994 Brynas
8 Darnell Nurse D 6-5, 194 Left Feb. 4, 1995 Sault Ste. Marie
9 Rasmus Ristolainen D 6-3, 196 Right Oct. 27, 1994 TPS Turku
10 Hunter Shinkaruk LW 5-11, 181 Left Oct. 13, 1994 Medicine Hat

That's exactly how I would rank them (maybe Nurse at 7).
But I've only seen most of them play once, besides Mackinnon, Drouin, and Shinkaruk who I have seen ~10 times

Good, let his draft stock fall until BAM, he is wearing the flaming C. At this point anyway, I would bet he goes #4, not higher nor lower. The Flames ain't getting the first or second picks, Florida, Colorado, Buffalo, Tampa and even Philly are all too terrible for the Flames to get #1 or #2 overall. As it stands now I think we draft right at #4 which leaves Barkov to us.
Now I hope to god the Flames aren't like, well we know better so we're going to go for Monahan, because Barkov is much better.

Monahan would be a good runner up prize if we pick 5th and Barkov is gone. Otherwise Barkov is a no brainer.
